Hi Nancy - I think other cardmakers have better scraps too! But, I find if I keep mine with the parent paper pack it is just much easier to use scraps first and then fill in with the coordinating full sheet when necessary.

Hi Gwen - May I suggest that if you are going to start saving scraps, that you save them with the parent paper pack? This allows you to pull coordinating paper in a larger size if you need it to complete a card. That's what I finally settled on after years of scrap craziness. And the system really works well for me.

Sometimes I think you have to have a clean slate to start with. When I had my scraps separated out from the parent pack of paper I never could figure out how to use them up. I donated most of that mess to daycares and started a different scrap storage system - described here. It works much better and I use up most of my scrap now. It's just a different mindset somehow. Best of luck with yours!!

There are some very good tips I can use. I use the 12x12 cases for patterned paper storage and, as you showed, label them by paper suppliers. For solid paper scraps, I use clear acrylic food containers. Those containers live by my die cutting machine so I can find a scrap easily to use with my dies. Good video. Like the cards you made.

You put the vintage ephemera to very good use, Julia!! I store my solid scraps in 12x12 page protectors in a large basket. I make it a habit of checking the basket before using a new piece of cardstock. I store pattern paper either with the pad or in a 12x12 page protector. I think the key is having a system/habit. I still have more scrap than I wish I had but am working on using them up. Your use of sketches is a great way to use up scraps. TFS!

Hi Roxanne - You are so welcome. My advice is to start using scraps first. I find it much easier to do that by keeping the scraps with the parent pack in a clear sheet protector. That system works great for me and has decreased my scrap population tremendously.

Hi there Julia... 💖 I really enjoyed watching this video, and was so sad when it ended... I could watch your videos for hours, and hours❣ Julia your channel is fabulous, and I am always learning something new. I love, love, love your scrap storage solutions, and I have decided that I am going to do something similar with my smaller pieces. Up until now I had stored all my scrap papers together all mixed up, and placed in a drawer..., but guess what??? I never used them as there was too many scraps to rummage through, and it was easier to get a new piece of paper. My cardstock papers are in the 6x6 or 12x12 inch paper pads, and I have started only recently storing all the scraps within the corresponding pads. I love your idea of placing the scraps in page protectors, and then storing them with the corresponding papers/pads. Sorry Julia I had to laugh at your 'scraps'... they are so neat!!! 🤣🤣🤣You would never know that the cards that you made were using up your scrap papers, and anyone would love to receive any of these gorgeous cards for Christmas. You will have to pause from your Christmas cards, and start making your Autumn/Fall cards, and Halloween... ughhhh!!! Thank you for showing your desk organisation above your work station it was very neat and organised. What a clever idea using computer monitor risers, and they look nice. I can see that the main things you would need are within close reach of where you are working. Julia, can I please ask how long do you spend each day in your craft studio making cards, and paper crafts? If I had your craft studio I think I would live in there as it is so beautiful❣ Wishing you a blessed and productive day in your lovely studio. Blessings, love and hugs from your Aussie friend Gloria. 🥰🐨🦘☕🧁💐💖💕

Hi my Aussie Friend Gloria - Hope you are having a lovely day downunder! That is a strange saying isn't it? Are we in the Northern hemispher upover to you?! 🤣😂🤣 You see, I used to store my paper scraps just like you. And I never reached in there to work that crazy pile. I had to change my operation or just throw paper away because that system just did not work for me either. I use the heavy duty sheet protectors because they are very easy to get paper in and out of. And they lay flat when stuck in with a paper pack sleeve. When I drug all the Christmas sentiments out and put them on the work table to the right, I had to move all my little cubbies over to the left table. Well You know I am right handed so that was a challenge to me. Somewhere on KZfaq I saw a lady using the single computer monitor riser and I had the AHHA moment. After I got one set of two it was very obvious I needed a second set. It works very well and I am over the moon about it! I usually spend most afternoons in my studio for a couple of hours at least. And there are some hours I spend on youtube looking for interesting snippets I might like to try. And then there is the time I spend looking at publications. Of course, the middle of the night I might like to plan out a card in my mind or think of something fun to try next. And after coffee I go up to say hello to Cordelia and clean up anything from yesterday. Well, basically I could just live up there and come down to eat!

@@SeniorSusieStamps Ha... ha... Yes it is a strange saying the land down under, but in reality I suppose we are, and you are in the land up over!!! Too funny... 🤣🤣🤣 Today felt like spring as it was so sunny, and with a gentle breeze. I spent a lot of time outside in the garden this afternoon, and not a lot of time in the craft room... in fact no time in the craft room!!! I only store my black and white scrap cardstock in that drawer now, as they don't belong to any paper pack or pad. I do go to that drawer looking for black or white pieces only, and it seems to be working fine for me. I also have a drawer underneath that where I keep my scrap white copy paper, as they are too good to throw out. I use those pieces of paper on various projects especially if I need to protect my surface from glues or from paint etc... it saves reaching for a nice new sheet of copy paper! I am always looking at KZfaq papercraft/card making channels for inspiration, and I have my favourites..., and without a doubt yours would have to be my number one favourite❣❣❣ Does Cordelia live in your craft studio, or does she only go up there with you while you get crafty? Have a lovely day in your craft studio. Blessings, love and hugs from your Aussie friend down under!!! 🥰🐨🦘🌻💖💕

@@gloriaonesimus6244 Hi Gloria - I am glad your world is turning to Spring so maybe Autumn will start here! Yesterday was 91 again... I keep my colored card stock scraps in heavy duty sheet protectors standing in magazine boxes over on the other side of the studio on a bookcase my Daddy built for Mother. Those little trays of white is all the white scraps I have, and the black is even smaller. Cordelia decided to live in the Studio early last Spring - we don't know why. But we moved her litter box and food up there when it was obvious that was now her spot. She comes and sits at the to of the stairs and waits for us to come up. But I really think she like it there better than in the main house. Have a wonderful day and we'll Chat again soon!! Julia

Hello Julia, You are super organised in your craft room! I am impressed with your systems for storage. I just love your new storage idea for your desk area. It is so handy when everything is just there ready to go. I keep my scraps sorted into colour groups in a set of drawers (A4 sized) I think there are 5 drawers which sit to my right and card bases are in another one to my left and more sized (coloured) bases and white cardstock are in drawers that sit under my desk to my left. I do not have the room for a lot as its a small room but I do at least have a dedicated room just for me which I love! 😊 This year I have had a thing for using DL card bases. I make some bases but mostly buy them as they come with the envelopes and are good value.

Hi Jill and Welcome to My Channel! When I started card making years ago, I tried originally to keep scraps stored together away from the parent pack of paper, just in a big pile of scraps kinda sorted by color. And, I never used any because it was too hard to find coordinating colors that worked well together. After I changed to this system and got a bit stern with myself, I find my scraps really dwindled down to a very manageable lot.
