You should always put the saw ( or other ope) in cold start (full choke) to make sure any sawdust does not get in the carburetor when you remove the air filter.

Non ethanol 90 octane is readily available where I live...with stihl synthetic oil , it's all you need.

A minute of information and 6:37 minutes of Sthil product promotion. I understand that some promotion is the price I pay for education but could you be a little more subtle .... I've supported Sthil products both at home and in my business for over 40 years. I resent being forced to sit through a Sthil infomercial and will consider this the next time I purchase equipment.

I did all that, except after the drain I filled the tank with fuel. I'm hearing rumor that it's better to have a full tank rather than an empty one to stop condensation during the winter months.
@bobsbeard3977
@bobsbeard3977 3 жыл бұрын
that's only an issue with ethanol fuels. Ethanol will absorb moisture. A clean empty tank is best

Great video. My question is running the unit dry of fuel bad, because I thought that the seals, gaskets, etc. would dry out and have to be replaced. Thanks for your response,

Got it. Any longer than 3 months unused - throw away Stihl chainsaw in a well ventilated area to avoid costly trips to a Stihl service centre.

Cool, wanted to know if I could leave oil in the chainsaw, now I see that it is ideal to do so. Thanks.

Good marketing, it's sure to generate more profits for Stihl. That moto-mix, considering its makeup, is grossly over-priced and from personal experience is not needed. I got a Stihl 025 (30+ yrs old). It starts like a charm and runs great. I always used 87 octane gas, with a 40-1 (big box store) oil mix and fuel stabilizer. Between uses the tanks is always full so it's ready to use at a moments notice. I've only changed the spark maybe twice, and the starter cord once. However I am a stickler about cleaning it after every use, but more important I know its limitations and don't abuse it.

I use Stabil with my saws and outboards. Warm the engine , empty all fuel and then run engine until empty. Lastly use a airgin to remove any fuel vapor from the tank

Using 50:1 Stihl mix....be cautious that your 2 cycles are run WOT most of the time. If not, you run the risk of oil depletion on critical bearing surfaces. Better to run 40:1 and you don't have to worry as much. I've opened up a plethora of saws run on 50:1 Sithil oil and 40:1 Stihl oil mix. The difference in oil residue on critical parts is remarkable. It's your money.......

First pull, first damn pull? Must have had a bus load of Engineers there. I love my Stihl equipment but nothing ever starts on the first pull. I'm usually about out of adjective before I get it running. I do love the way the perform after they start.

Thanks much. saw expensive, and need to maintain. This alcohol fuel has to go. It ruins all 2 cycle engines. EPA was only supporting the corn industry. Reverse the laws. or at least take a position on what is right.

See this is where Stihl are getting like other big companies and want your money, running a saw out of fuel is the worst thing you can do it’s like tuning the carb lean, running it out of fuel is bad the fuel is the lubricant and when it’s spluttering it’s not getting lubricant properly, I never run a saw out as soon as it splutters or I can see it’s low I fuel it up.

Ok I’m horrible lol I use my chainsaw once a year for 2 weeks in October. I’ve never done any of this lol. I leave the gas in. I don’t fill the bar oil up. I don’t clean it at all. And I’ve been using it for the last 22 years lol. Oh I replaced the spark plug last year lol. By the way my saw is a Poulan Wild Thing green and purple with an 18” bar that I bought for $99 lol. Go figure lol

Wtf is the difference between buying the same 'high-octane' premixed fuel vs buying top-grade 93/94 Premium (even higher quality octane) mixed with the stihl synthetic oil? Why does the exact same mixture last 2+ years from stihl, but only 2 months otherwise? Smells like bs.
