In this video, I go over how to stream Steam VR Oculus Quest. Using Virtual Desktop to stream Steam VR games is insanely easy, I'll show you how to stream SteamVR games to Oculus Quest wirelessly and Stream Rift Games to Oculus Quest wirelessly as well.

I just played the first 2 chapters of HLA and it played great! I almost feel like it lagged more using link over virtual desktop. I have a quest and a rift s. I'm super impressed with virtual desktop. Totally worth your $20

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I used the charging cable as a link cable before but it had a max of like 10fps but on my laptop screen it was about 60. When I got virtual desktop I can not feel sick because I have good VR legs and I still felt ill using alvr/link.

Just a couple of pointers that will help VD run better. Set your router in the 5g mode to channel 40. Also the quest in VD settings look at the video option and try slice encoding. This will help alot with some but not all titles alot with lag. Make sure you are always close to the router as possible. If you have cable lines in a room that you play VR in and don't have a strong wifi connection look into an affordable tech called moca 2.0. Place one in there and setup a router as an access point and connect your quest. Also make sure your PC is hard wired to your router as well. 👍 If you have any controller issues look at steam VR controller bindings setting and download the custom bindings for the game that you are having trouble with. Asgard is one title that I had to do that because the menus don't work correctly in virtual desktop.

I haven’t been able to get Echo VR to work through Virtual Desktop. It shows up in my steam library and it launches. I can see the video feed on the PC but it doesn’t feed to the headset.

Works perfectly - however, it took me ages to realise I had to also unplug my Valve Index. Until then, my VR games would just launch on the Virtual Desktop monitor. Thanks heaps for the concise advice, Tyco. You're right - Easy Peasy!

Thanks, this was really helpful. It all seems to work, but when it switches to VR I just get a green screen. Tracking is working as there is a blue circle on the floor. Amy idea why this isn't working, I tried this with a couple of games in steam. My PC does need an upgrade, parts coming this week, but I wanted to get it up and running first.

Great explanatory video! I have a question regarding some of the setting within Virtual Desktop. For example, will 'sliced encoding' and 'additional MSAA' provide a better image? Did you enable the 'increase video nominal rate'? It provides a more saturated image in my experience but not better per se. What is your opinion about that option? Overall, did you find the latency comparable to the Oculus Link function (with optimal conditons of course)? Thanks!

For those having this issue still, I had to press the left oculus button to pull up settings and enable the setting for "Microphone bypass". If that doesn't 100% solve it, make sure Virtual Desktop has permissions to use your microphone.

Any reason to use virtual desktop instead ALVR? The fork by jack83 seems like a good option. What's the benefit of using virtual desktop to play steam games?

Ease of use I'd say and in my experience it's better quality than alvr. Also, in the next VD update it'll support playing Rift games without Revive ;-)

I'm having problems please help. I just bought the vr desktop app on quest and when I finish installing it on pc, it doesn't open. I read something in the comments about a cable but the whole reason I'm doing this is because I don't have a USBc port on my pc and that would mean I would have to buy an adapter. So do I have to have a cable. Or do I need to buy the app twice. Like once on 0c and once on quest

I only have problem with asgarth wrath for some reason with VD. It starts sometimes but then in the loading menu it crashes and sometimes doesnt start at all. With ALVR works fine but ALVR is such a hassle.

hi tyco tech, im watching the tutirial and so far the only part that is confusing me is the virtual desktop. I just bought it off steam, but for some reason when i open up virtual desktop through the quest after i dowloaded the latest update, it crashes on me and says i need to buy it from the store. So do i need virtual desktop on the quest or the desktop?

Both. You must get the desktop link from the description, and you need virtual desktop from the Quest Store.

Thanks for the video. I can’t get past the Steam VR waste land screen (the one with all the lines on the floor). So Steam VR home does not load. I thought it might be poor WiFi, but on the VD home panel, it does say 5g. Any idea?

If you do this then save some time. You need to buy and download the Virtual Desktop from the Steam/Oculus store. Then make sure you setup Virtual Desktop in Sidequest and not just on your PC. Just search for it in Sidequest! Thanks so much Tyco Tech, I've spent a bunch of money on leads that don't work or are too heavy or no right-angle. This is amazing!

I have a question. I downloaded everything i need. Downloaden minecraft vr in the oculus app on my pc. Launch it trough my quest (i also find it hard to find the oculus home if im in virtual desktop) and when i launch it i get a kind of purple screen around me and it says next minecraft vr but on my pc it says "rift not found" and i tried it with other games for example nvidia fun house and that one gives another error on my pc and in the quest "nest nvidia funhouse". But if i dont use the oculus app on pc i can run and play emuvr or vivecraft.

Some games have wonky controls for some reason... for example, if I do this with Yu-Gi-Oh! VR, I have to hold down the joystick to move instead of just moving the joystick. Is there a fix for this?

I'm trying to launch Echo Arena using ReVive, and it starts launching, and the game launches on my PC but steam just continues to show the UP NEXT screen and not show the game. Steam games work fine, but lone Echo and Echo Arena not launching. Any ideas?

few questions, I'm using the link and i'm thinking to buy virtual desktop I wanted to make sure that is the same experience. what's the difference between the link and the virtual desktop, does all the games on the link work with virtual desktop (steam and oculus store), any latency/lag? It all depends on your ability to provide a suitable environment for it to function at it's best. WiFi/router quality/performance and PC capabilities need to be good. The experience isn't the same but some things are better (like image quality). There's also some compatibility issues with certain games but the next update plans to address compatibility and improve the experience all round. All I can suggest is to try it and don't exceed 2 hours use if you want to refund.

How do you connect your oculus quest to side quest without a link cable!? Is that possible ? Or steam be without a link cable ! I bought virtual desktop and download everything ! But steam vr says please connect your headset and side-quest says when I log in that v0.10.7 not detected ? Everything I said look up says to plug it in with the cable!?

I'm far away from my router, is it possible to get a second router that connects to the original one for having my computer and Quest sharing their own separate router? It seems that the connection goes from the Quest to the router and back to the PC, so internet connection would be a secondary need.

I've gotten this to work with my really good router to connect via LAN instead of the Internet. It was a bit of a hastle, but I got it to work! Let me know if you need help, but you need a good router that can dedicate around 866mbs for best results. Mine is a 1900A router I believe.

Commander Darokahn MC you download side quest on your pc, connect your quest to your pc via any usb-usb c or usbc-usbc cable and search virtual desktop on the side quest search bar and install. Simple.

I noticed you have a 1050 Ti too, and I was wondering how well it can handle VR games. The two big games I'd like to try are Google Earth VR and Minecraft VR, do you think I could handle them at a stable frame rate? I also have a good 5 Ghz connection. Main Specs: i7-3770 @3.40 Ghz GTX 1050 Ti 16GB Ram 500GB SSD

you sould be fine wit that set up, i have a 1060/ryzen2600 16gb ram and 500gbssd also. Runs Google Earth VR perfect. Tried the app tonigt for the first time, man its awesome. Also just got a free router upgrade from my ISP. Now i can enjoy 5ghz wifi. ;)

This is absolutely astonishing to see it working in the Quest this way. I'm blown away to be honest just being able to see my PC in this way and operate it so easily. My PC isn't hard wired to my network either and its faultless. I'm still getting used to it all in SteamVR and the settings, especially for the controls. I couldn't get AirCar to steer. I have to ask, what is the Revive software for? I've installed it and its running but no idea what it is!

Revive will let you play Rift games through SteamVR. You don't need to do anything, it just works. Super easy.

Around the 4 minute mark you seemed to skip the vital part about how to actually connect in VR. I can connect to my PC via the virtual screen in my Vr environment but the PC doesn't detect my Headset.

When I play (try to play) some games I can't get past the startup screen cause the button config in VD I guess. it'll say new game and I can point at it but it doesn't matter what button I click it won't select. Any tips? Try starting stand out for instance

Anyone know how to improve the compression artefacts? No latency issues and every setting maxed out on a 5ghz gaming router 2m away. Half life Alyx looks muddy in dark areas and Fallout 4 is unplayable... Both games run smooth as and look great using the link cable though...

Check uo in the very right top hand corner in the steam window. It has a small vr up there.

there is one thing i really want to ask. are the games and vidtual apps gonna lag that much like on the video. 1 frame per 1 to 2 seconds isn't really nice you know
