I like to chunk my learning down to small sections with set times. If I try to learn a dozen cards, I get overwhelmed and I don’t own the lesson. Instead, I’ll take 3 cards and then set my phone timer for 5 minutes and study away. After 5 minutes, I grab a different stack and repeat the alarm. I try not to go through quantity, but quality. My Deutsch teacher told me when practicing at home to “Pretend that you are a performer on stage. Say every word clearly and loudly, so that the person in the last row can hear you.”

Hello Herr Antrim, one thing I would like to tell you is just how tough the transition is to jump from levels A2 to B1, i.e to be in Intermediate from advanced beginner. Since B1 is a level where you have to give reasoning with your response or give critical comments on any given topic. I really hope you can make a video on how to tackle this issue because I know a lot of others are suffering from this. Thank you.

What is your opinion on intervals between going through the cards, how many words to try and learn in a set. Maybe moving items you really know well to one side and adding some new words to the deck ?
@MrLAntrim
@MrLAntrim 5 жыл бұрын
About 20 active words is probably best. These are the ones you are most unfamiliar with. You can mix in some from previous lessons / flash card sets. At the beginning, start with 20 new words. After you feel confident with those, set aside the 10 most difficult. Add in 20 new words and mix in the 10 most difficult from the previous list. Continue this forever. Never have more than 40 words in a stack. You will likely never be able to actively learn that many at a time.

Hallo Herr Antrim, Thanks a lot for your video. Really great tips. Am at A1 now. Please help me with a doubt. One of the important learning processes is to identify the gender of the noun. If I have already created the flashcards for 3 genders in 3 different colors, I know 'X' color flashcard is for 'Y' gender. Do you have any suggestions for revisiting the flashcards (which is already written) and test myself if I can remember the gender?

Hello Herr Antrim, on flashcards for verbs do you suggest noting the cases following the verb and/or the prepositions used with them? Any thoughts about including example sentences?
@MrLAntrim
@MrLAntrim 5 жыл бұрын
If a verb is a dative or genitive verb, I would note that on the card, but verbs that just take the accusative case wouldn't need that, as it is kind of the default. Prepositions used with verbs should not be included, as it may lead to the misconception that they are required with those verbs, but they are not. Example sentences would be a great addition to the card.

hey, im not the teacher but i think you could draw a picture (doesn't have to look pretty) next to the word you have to learn, then your brain has one more thing it can connect to the new vocabulary. the picture doesn't have to make any sense to other people or in general, but it should be something that you personally associate with that one word
