How to study for your board exams | tips + advice for students and ultrasound techs/ sonographers
ARDMS, RDCS, SPI, RVT, Abdomen, Obgyn, Vascular, Pediatrics, Echocardiography
Edelman, Davies, ESP inc, X-Zone, Ultrasound Registry Review
What is up KZfaq family! My name is Geselle and I am so happy to have you here! THANK YOU for stopping by! If you clicked on this video you're looking for tips on how to study and pass your board exams. This video has specific details that pertain to ultrasound technologists / sonographers so make sure you watch the entire thing for specific exam tips, but it can also help any student/ person who needs help with how to study in general. These are things that helped me personally. Make sure you set time aside to study. I know life is busy, things get crazy, and we find so many excuses to not sit down and focus. But when you are ready to sit down and focus, you focus!
5 STEPS ON HOW TO STUDY EFFICIENTLY:
0:00 intro, hello everyone!
1:16 STEP #1 Read: skim through your material first so you know what lies ahead. Then, read chapter 1. Focus on chapter 1. Then the following day, read chapter 2. AND chapter 1. After that, read chapter 3. AND 2 AND 1. And so on and so forth. Keep the material fresh in your mind. This part takes the longest. Everyone reads and studies at different paces, so make sure you find the appropriate amount of time you need to study.
4:04 STEP #2 Write: write down notes, things you MUST remember or need to come back to to spend more time on later. Write KEY words, underline, highlight, and make certain things stand out. You can do this while reading or after you have already done reading your chapters.
5:47 STEP #3 Draw: draw figures and charts to help you see things more clearly and concise. Use diagrams, use your creativity. Search google and KZfaq videos for help.
7:45 STEP #4 Answer Questions: find multiple choice questions, sample questions, make flash cards, or use quizlet online. There is also an app called 'Anki' where people have already made flashcards you can potentially use.
10:03 STEP #5 Explain your topics: you can confirm your knowledge by being able to explain the topics you have just studied. This will enhance your memory skills and show that you are able to understand the concept rather than just remembering things short term.
13:58 EDELMAN SEMINAR INFORMATION
16:26 ULTRASOUND REGISTRY REVIEW INFORMATION
I hope all of these tips and advice help you! No matter where you are in your ultrasound/ school journey, studying will always be apart of life. Life is a continuous learning process, and ultrasound does not steer far from that. You will constantly be challenged and will always have to open a book or search google. GOOD LUCK if you're going to take a board exam! Get lots of rest the night before and believe in yourself! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

One of my biggest downfalls in college was I hated reading the text books but it was always sooooo helpful. Especially when you read it before the lesson, it makes the lesson a lot easier to understand and follow since you had already exposed yourself to the material!

I want to take the online one for pediatrics but every three years we have to do CMEs so I’m waiting for next year to do a seminar! I’m happy they made them available online, so no one is missing out. But I definitely would travel if I could have haha. They have one in Vegas every year! @@lolgeselle thanks Geselle! I certainly will do that! The video was helpful & gave me hope that if you did it & are doing it & hate to read then I can too! It's extra hard finding the motivation to be accountable in the age of remote learning & having been out of school for so long but I really want to do this! I admit, I was a crammer in years past & did not give myself the weeks I needed to really retain. So this is studying on steroids- a whole new level of studying for me! Y'all gotta pray with me. 🙏 I was kinda joking but I really need to get back in the habit of studying NOW in general & saying goodbye to freedom for the next 3 yrs.👀 😭 lol Also, How long are the registries good for? Is it 3 years? I think you said that somewhere...?
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
Amy C. Yessss you’re on a road to success if you do that! And yes girl I hate reading but when I know it’s important and will help me I force myself to.. and it gets fun, eventually lol. (When you start to understand and things begin to make sense). Yes I used to procrastinate but you really can’t if you want to be ahead of the game! I’ll be on your journey with you 🥰 You can still have SOME freedom, just not as much. 🙂 haha. Registries are good, once you have it you have it. But you have to do continuing education and get 30 credits every 3 years I believe. If you take seminars, classes, online events and such, you can get credits. Since I passed two registries within the first 3 years I passed all the CME credits. The end of this year they will expire so I’ll have to do more things within the next three years to make those credits to keep my credentials! So I plan to do a seminar next year! ✨

I am currently in the process of changing my major to DMS. The only programs close to me are for echo or vascular, but I really want to do OB sonography. Is it possible to go through the programs for echo or vascular and just get certified in OB when taking my exams? What’s the process for that if so? Do I have to take a few classes for OB or is there any online certification programs? I heard that it wasn’t possible to cross-train from echo or vascular to general sonography so I’m a little panicked!
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
Allie Anderson hey there! That’s awesome you’re changing majors! To be honest, in order to get OB registered you need to have a paperwork signed by someone who has an OB registry and to be able to sign you off saying you are competent in scanning OB/ know how to scan OB patients. I’m not sure if you can find an online certification program for OB specific.. it isn’t really possible to cross train anymore, I know back in the day they could. It all depends on where you live and who you know. In my opinion, if you really want to do OB, I’d suggest going to a general program. And finding the closest one to you. Even if it’s a state or two away, it’ll be better in the long run. Or I heard there are online schools. Sounds like you’re on the east coast and it runs a bit differently out there. I suggest messaging “KRISTYDMS” if you are on Instagram as she’s on the east coast and does OB! Do your best to research and see if OB is really what you want, because if location is the issue and you want to stay near your home, echo/ vascular can get boring to some people, but others end up actually really loving it!!!! I’m glad you’re trying to figure it all out before jumping in head first, because I don’t want you to waste time or money! Hopefully some of this info helps.💖

Hello I have a question. If I buy Edelman‘s fourth edition understanding ultrasound book, will I be able to understand everything even though I’m not taking ultrasound physics just yet.? I want to get ahead start lol but I don’t want to buy something I won’t understand at all
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alyssa!! Haha you can get it to read it and see if you understand it, or the basics. Maybe get yourself familiar with the words or terms. It’s straight forward but you may need to like KZfaq or Google some stuff to help you. I personally don’t understand stuff unless someone’s explaining it to me hahah. But getting a head start also isn’t a bad idea. You will eventually need the book anyway! 🤍

Do u guys stand or sit to work? Also which one is tougher echo, vascular or Oby ? Vascular I think it’s too tough and echo or Oby might be less tough to study and pass. Also which one is in higher demand? I’m thinking echo
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle Жыл бұрын
I stand and sit depending on how I feel and where I am in the hospital. I don’t do echo. OBGYN is more difficult for me but it’s different for everyone. All modalities are high in demand.
@oyato1
@oyato1 Жыл бұрын
@@lolgeselle yea, why do you think OBYGYN is a more difficult modality. I looked at cardiac n abdomen and I cud see some figures with abdomen but the cardiac was kinda hard to figure out the image except for it’s pumping. Also listening to questions and answers of both modalities abdomen seemed relatable then cardiac and vascular was oblivious . I’m not sure if I’m looking at the right stuff in order to make a decision on which modality to choose . I might need some help on that as the schools awaiting my decision on what modality I’d decided on in order to conclude their next admission cycle for this fall.

hey! which route did you decide on? for me its the moving target and knowing there are so many different pathologies with obgyn to know and understand.

Can I apply to the ARDMS in Puerto Rico and how do you take the test?? Do you go somewhere or is it at home??
@lolgeselle

I would contact ARDMS.org for this information. Usually you go into a testing site but post-covid they had online as an option.
