Wow. This is making me want to go for my masters. I'm an American so the amount of student debt I have is outrageous and I still have another year and a half to earn my bachelors. I've been studying abroad in France since august and will be here until the end of may, and while I'm saving a bit of money because I earned some scholarships it's still quite expensive. To think that I could go on and get my masters for free is amazing and tempting...

Not that special in Europe though since we basically copied the apprenticeship programmes that exist in some of our neighbouring countries, especially Germany and Switzerland. Theirs are much more developed and accessible and stem from a long-standing high regard for practical, technical know-how in their respective (yet rather close) cultures, a mindset which is still kind of wanting in France.

Hello everyone, just to give more of an insight as to how it works, you got an amazing chance Rosie to find a school that really provides that kind of an opportunity. Because the french universities are still in general pretty laid back on it. It's really hard for a french student to work during the school year, they're generally frowned upon (like you'll have teachers saying they'll automatically flunk students that miss their classes even if they bring proof that they are working at that time in order to eat food and have a shelter). That's why our government started encouraging universities to develop those programms. Some universities still struggle however to actually accept "alternants" (students that work and study). Like my brother has to turn in homework even during the weeks when he is in the company and the programms are not yet really thought out for the ones who are working in their field of study. I am complaining too much? Well, I'm not French for nothing... (and maybe it's because we're complaining so much that we have such great things being put into place ;-) ). Still I had no idea that those kind of programms didn't exist in other modern countries, I thought France was very late XD Please keep up the good work Rosie, I really enjoy your videos!

So, you're in human resources! Great! Just one note on "ressources humaines" - when French companies first instituted their human resources services in the 1970's, I came across several French people who objected, saying "I don't want to think of myself as a resource." I guess that was because of the rigidity of the French language - resources at that time were raw materials, period. I said to one of those people, "gold is a resource, and you are golden!" That calmed them down.

Yes it is advantageous for the three Masters that you have stated to register it is different according to the institutions. After your side usually before the registration very early even you have to contact companies to make a request for apprenticeship at them.

Honestly, I'm really going to research more into the area I want to study because I finished my licentiate degree (only 3 years but the same level as bachelor) and I'm looking for a good Masters program but I was so worried that if I wanted to do it abroad I would have to get a loan or something :O Honestly I think this should be adopted in other countries!

Actually, it is not "becoming" the norm to have a bachelor's degree to enter the job world, it is rather that European school systems have been reformed by the Bologna Process. In Germany for instance, before bachelor and master, there was only a diploma = the equivalent to today's master's degree. Today's bachelor's degree was called something like pre-diploma or intermediate diploma; you can tell from the name that it was not a full diploma with which you could enter the job world, it was not even considered a full study cycle. Bachelor degrees still have that reputation (and in some cases rightfully so in my opinion) to not equip with knowledge that is sufficient for a more sophisticated job. I think in France they had a different name for every diploma after 2, 3, 4 and 5 years (a bachelor for example is equivalent to three years and hence still commonly referred to as 'licence'). So yeah, you don't get very far with only a bachelor's in Central Europe. However, I am not sure if preparing for a job belongs into the academic world and if there isn't (in some other cases) rather some kind of over-academisation mania in fields that essentially just consist of big-looking titles to look and sound like they make you a kickass experts, e.g. international marketing management... That is basically something you can learn by simply starting to work in a company, you don't need to study to understand how that works (sorry not sorry). But that's a different topic, obviously companies want the title. -_-

I am planning to apply for a master degree program in France. I heard that a master program taught in French will be more positive for my profile than a master program taught in English if I want to go through the naturalization process for French nationality. Is that so? Thanks a lot.

I'm taking online courses to get my bachelor's of science in psychology, but I want to go to France to get my masters. But I have soooo many questions 😭 like what if I get my masters but want to work in America again? Will my degree count in America? Can I get a host family? Because I read that it's mostly for high school students going to college, and I'll be 24 when I get my bachelor's. I've never even been on a plane! But I really want to go 😁

The link doesn’t work anymore and most of the info I searched show that you have to be an EU citizen or hold a work permit. I’m from Asia and would love to know more about this, would appreciate if anyone could help!

Thanks for sharing! I wonder if you could share about how your degree might be received in New Zealand? I just got into an MBA program at ISC but am not sure about how the degree would translate if I went back to the US since its not an internationally recognized school name. Any thoughts?

I don't know specifically about NZ, but I do work on a number of applications for institutions, schools, unis etc. for French students applying to study overseas. Each school determines its own criteria for admission. There is no right to diploma/qualification/degree X from country A being automatically considered as equivalent to diploma/qualification/degree Y in country B. Even within the UE, with the Bologna convention aiming at bringing member states into line, member states work to a similar bachelor's-master's-doctorat/PhD system, but again, there is no automatic recognition of a 3-year bachelor's degree from the UK being recognised as a "licence" equivalent in France; it may well be considered that way, or even be likely that will be so, but it is not certain and each application will be assessed on its merits from one member state to another and from one school/uni to another. 8-)

I'm also thinking of studying in France in either my bachelor or masters program. I would like to know how the French universities compared your grades to what they have in europe( the baccalaureate). What system do they have in new Zealand? Did you have to do any additional testing like the international baccalaureate or a SAT? I'm trying to apply from Canada but for Canada there is no standardized assessment like in the US. So I don't know how they would assess my grades, any suggestions? Would you suggest doing additional tests?

I'm not sure there is an universal test that you have to take in order to study in France. If you are still studying in a Canadian University, you should try to ask if they are any existing programs for exchange students or at least other students who already have been in France, they can probably help you. If there aren't, I think the best way to go is to look for french schools which interest you, and contact them directly. The french educational system isn't very keen on standardised testing, preparing a SAT would probably be a waste of time and money. If you have studied at least one year after high school, I wouldn't suggest taking the international baccalaureate either : it is a high school degree created after the french curriculum, so if you're already beyond high school, they'll probably be more interested in your uni grades, and maybe letters of recommandation or reference from some of your teachers... And, if you're applying for a program in french, you'll probably also have to take a language test.

Hi, if you are thinking into applying to a French uni, I just made a video about how to do it and what I had to go through to get into a French school!

When the hell did they switch it from 6 to 5 to get a Master's degree? I knew someone with a Ph.D, which he received in 7 years because he started college a year ahead of everyone else. He told me it took the full 6 tears to get the Master's and the full 2 to earn the Ph.D, plus 2 more for the Post doctoral work. He started college in year 2, skipped right over Year 1 because he was a child genius (prodigy) and if you ever forgot it, his parents would be there to remind you of it. Every. Single. Week. It was the French-American man I was married to, who's now my ex-Mann. As they say in German, which would upset his family more than it ever did him. They all remembered WWII (my ex-husband didn't like women his own age) and hated German with a passion.
