Discover how to style fine or thin hair to achieve more volume and fullness with this low tension round brush technique. Sam Villa Education Director, Andrew Carruthers shares the difference between round brushing hair with high tension or low tension and how a low tension approach combined with a rough pre-dry allows for more body, fullness, and the appearance of thicker hair.

Was browsing videos for how to blow dry fine and thin hair (mine) and watched this. I have used the technique 2x now on my just below chin length hair that was recently blunt cut . Can I say wow what a difference it made. I have been frying my thin ends before getting my flat roots dry and now I section my hair and work on my roots The way that was shown with the brush and I have root body now, yay🤗 without fried ends. Thank you so much!

Thank you for this video - Andrew you are the best, so clear, grounded and inspiring. I am in hair school right now, started in person and then with quarantine we are online, and your videos have been really helpful during this time to keep up with my education and feel like I'm continuing to move forward and develop my skills. I'm wondering if you have any tips or tricks on sectioning hair when doing these round brush wrap drys. Ive seen lots of videos on creating volume but I'm never quite sure how to go about beginning the blowdry - using sectioning clips or not, where to start on the head, etc. Anyway, I'm super grateful for your videos. :)

To help me stretch the curl on natural haired women I use the big round brush. It REALLY stretches the hair and it takes Less time to blow dry.

I'm glad I came across your video I was just looking to buy a new round brush today, I have fine hair past my shoulders and I like wearing it straight but would like more body at the roots ....I think that thermal brush would be good for me, but what size brush was that... is it 1" or 2"?? Thanks for the new blow dry technique of drying ends first...going to try it out!!🙂

Oh, also -- what IS the size of the non boar bristle brush you used to create the more voluminous result/2nd side? Do you recommend detangling brushes as a first step, or is a very wide toothed comb acceptable? And finally, would a paddle brush ever be appropriate for fine, thinning hair when shine and volume are desired? TY
@samvillahair
@samvillahair 4 жыл бұрын
It's a 3/4 inch brush Muby... you could use anything from 3/4 to 1 1/4 to get great volume. We love a paddle brush for detangling just because it tends to be a little gentler :-)

@stacy9089

Cat Woman - That’s an important question.😊 In my experience with this technique, as long as I keep the air flow from my blow dryer moving while directing air flow down the hair shaft away from the scalp, my clients don’t experience any discomfort. Having a nozzle on your blow dryer is important for optimal control of air flow. The nylon bristles on the round brush act as a barrier for the scalp, protecting the heated barrel of the brush from direct contact with the scalp. In the case you have a client with an overly sensitive scalp, we all have a few, I’d adjust the heat to low at the scalp. Happy hairdressing! ☮️♥️💇🏻‍♀️
