Great advice! I typically lean on the side of caution and undergrade and overvalue (for insurance purposes or to make sure I'm paying for the correct tier). CGC is pretty lenient, as you said, so if you're not sure, submit at the less expensive tier, and they'll correct anything with an additional charge to correct the matter. Awesome books, by the way!!

Great video. Very informative as always. I’ve always done the same just use modern tier. I’d go to the high value or unlimited if I had certain really high value books to send in. Thanks for the info because I never knew it was all about how much they insure the books for when shipping back. Have a great day. Be well. -Dave 🤙

Am I right in thinking the fee is based on the raw FMV?

I *think* that is right...which I believe is why CGC is so forgiving when it comes to valuing the books conservatively since they know it's hard to correctly determine raw FMV because of the uncertainty of its condition.
