How-to Super Insulate a Post Frame ― Hang Big Box Fiberglass Batts

In this video I show how-to hang fiberglass batts on insul-hold insulation hangers to fill the 8' x 12' bays in our DIY post frame woodshop build. We used Kraft-faced insulation for the increased strength, then taped all of the seams to create a nearly vapor-tight surface that will be covered with girts and eventually a plywood wall.
I can see this working for nearly any height wall, and I will be filling the nine foot wide bays soon, so you will get to see how I split the batts in half to do that!

The hardest part of hanging batts is actually the height of the bays. Going up and down the ladder and repositioning the ladder just takes a lot of time. Other than that (and working with fiberglass in general), this is a pretty easy job. Great job! Insulating with fiberglass is a nasty, itchy job, but it is much cheaper than the alternatives. Nice to see it going up!

Hi Mojo, nice video as usual, I was looking at all those pokey stabby things, I thinking you have to be super careful you don't impale yourself. As you were talking about prices going through the wall, it's just the same over here, and at inflation running at 9% its frightening.

Thanks Larry! Steel prices are going up again as we speak because a lot of raw materials come from Russia. A lot of countries have "not in my backyard" laws where they push anything considered 'dirty' (mining, manufacturing, etc.) to other countries where it can't be seen, and are now paying the price. 😑

I just watched a video of a guy that lit the fiberglass batts paper face on fire. It burned very fast. Which is why they say it has to be covered in sheetrock.

Comment on laying the insulation on top of the diagonal bracing. I was expecting you to cut the insulation to make a better seal and eliminate bulk.

The seal is just fine, and a slight bump-out in that area has a better insulation value than cutting out. The extra material will be within the air gap in front of the wall. A 2" x 4" interior girt and 3/4" plywood wall goes on next.

Great video sir! I am building some shelves and a workbench in my barn that only has double bubble but want to insulate the wall I will be building on in case I do insulate the entire barn. Where did you purchase those metal hanging strips?
