ive said it time and time again, when the ship to mars or the moon is ready to go, it wont be your average man who is allowed on board. itll be the rich, the politicians, the world leaders, and a handful of people (workers) to continue capitalizing. probably a few billion, or millions, will be left to die on earth while those who are lucky or can afford it, will leave.

In "Greenland" they actually chose the most qualified people (engineers, medics, etc) to rebuild the world after the impact. Ye sure, few rich people and politicians will be in it. But you cant rebuild shit with them because they dont have any qualifications most of the time. So dont cry about the "evil rich people" - learn something valueable and you have good chances. Deep Impact is one of my favorite disaster movies with kinda sorta maybe somewhat halfway plausible science attached to the fiction - at least far more so than the Aerosmith music video starring Bruce Willis. It has a terrific cast playing sympathetic characters, very good f/x for it's day, and the most touching scene in any disaster flick when the reporter Jenny Lerner goes to be with her father instead of evacuating, knowing they are both doomed. Jenny clutching her father and saying "Daddy..." while he holds her tight as the huge wave comes at them ... gets me every time.

If you actually watch astrophysicists about this, you will learn: All the "better ideas" won't work either. If an Earth Killer is on it's way the greatest chance is we won't notice it until it hits us or our technology won't be able to do anything from identification point to impact point. At least, nothing effective. Though, exploding the asteroid/comet is only going do what it has in this movie "more debris".

Yep, this is what I thought. Now you have hundreds of slightly smaller meteors raining down over an even larger area, good job! I actually never saw this movie, but as soon as he said it was around the same size an Chicxulub I thought welp, not really much you can do. Personally, I don't think I would want to stick around after that anyway. Camp within the vaporization threshold, enjoy the view, and then disintegrate.

@dmcgee3 3 жыл бұрын
Well NASA/APL/Space X is launching DART in July to basically see what happens when you smash an asteroid and if kinetic deflection is possible. So might be better to say astrophysicists have hypothesi about this and they are about to do more testing to learn

@@Britishhick that's the gist of my plan for earth killing astroid, nuclear war, and super volcano. I've kinda accepting I won't survive these things. But it's okay, life as we know it wouldn't. Always thought it nice to realize how small insignificant and fragile our existence is though. Makes alot of the crap we get so worked up over feel rather silly. We could all die at any moment while raging on twitter about things that seem like the end of the world in our tiny little human circles.
@thetalkingnotepad5638
@thetalkingnotepad5638 3 жыл бұрын
Uh our technology can observe and notice earth killing threats(from space, like asteroids and comets) months ahead of time though so what the hell are you talking about. Sure we don't have the technology to stop it yet because it will be hard to hit or do something to an object travelling so fast but the better ideas will work. Stop saying if we actually watch astrophysicists yada yada yada, if you actually watch news or are always updated with our space agencies you'll be aware that they can detect these threats months ahead of time(if they are big enough) and a few weeks if they are small but still might pose a threat to some human lives and around 2 were actually detected in the last decade but luckily they didn't hit us(not that they have a very high chance of hitting anyway according to the calculations of the scientists) but it's good to know that we can plan ahead. In terms of doing something about it yep, none at the moment. There's literally nothing right now that can actually do it but tests are going to be conducted soon enough from what I've heard.

I hate to be the guy that says this but before I couldn't handle this channel just because every sentence was said with an upwards inflection at the end like every single sentence was it's own individual statement with import versus only severe points having the upward inflection. I still watched this channel, and maybe it was only me. But speech patterns in videos are one of my biggest gripes. Glad everything has smoothed out, it's done a lot for the channel.

Quite possibly one of the most realistic disaster films ever made. Almost nothing in this film was outlandish, outside the realm of technological ability, or impossible to achieve given the time table and resources available. The governments responses, the populations responses, (for the time that is) all of it are credible and frighteningly plausible. I love this movie, though it really should be classified as a science thriller and not science fiction, as again this is effectively a blueprint for how this kind of event would unfold.

At around 5:00 or so you could change it’s path to be closer to the moon and the moon is big and has a relatively large gravity well, maybe not as large as earth’s but still large. The gravity of the moon could pull in the asteroid and destroy it or launch it away. If you’ve ever play Universe Sandbox you may know what I’m talking about, if you’ve ever gotten an object to close to a black hole but still in orbit a lot of the time the black hole will launch the object out of it’s system never to be seen again a similar thing can be done here with the moon, or if you want to be risky, you can do it with the Earth.

There is a space channel on KZfaq with the guy playing on a space simulator. He shows that if an asteroid the size of a golf ball hits Earth going fast enough, it can kill all life on the planet. A golf ball going fast enough can destroy the Earth.. I don't know how realistic that simulator is but I remember watching the video and was surprised. Most non experts would probably think something like that is ridiculous. The simulator showed the shock wave covering taking over the whole Earth. He programmed the size of asteroid and the speed..

Good thing for humanity in that film, that comet would have basically been the next dinosuar extinction. The second smaller piece wouldn't have been able to send the earth to another extinction since it was smaller than the comet and the actual comet itself was destroyed but that second piece is still big enough to cause major damage (good example to look to is the Apophis asteroid if it would ever hit which wouldn't cause a mass extinction but would cause bad local affect for the county or countries that are affected by it) its a smart move to stay away from the coasts since most of us wouldn't know where it would hit. Stay somewhere mainland and hunker down. Most likely you wouldn't need a bunker if your in the middle of the mainland since how far the piece would hit. You should still try to find a safe place though because of the shock wave and possible debre hitting you. I still recommend getting a bunker and to be safe have supplies to last for a good year. We most likely won't have to face this in our life times, but with 2021 is going...yeaaaaahhhhh
