Thank you for providing so much important information regarding babies in the SHTF! Even though I am beyond my baby years, I think that information like this is useful for anytime. I don't think that young mothers are given so much practical advise anymore when it comes to babies either. I think that there is too much emphasis on the all the new "Stuff" you "Need" to take care of a baby. My grandmother used to say all you need is some diapers, A dresser drawer and lots of love! Thanks!

I don't have kids yet but your reasoning for swaddling makes a lot of sense. I'll probably be referring to this vid someday in the future provided things haven't "changed" too much in the world.

Great stuff to know. I'm in OB/PEDS clinicals right now and thought this was so cool when I learned it. It's advantages are it keeps the loose blanket away from their face reducing risk of SIDS, and it actually is a form of isometric exercise. Always look forward to your vids!

@theeastwatch Yes Sir! Many Native American tribes swaddled the baby into a Papoose or cradle board. These babies stayed consistently swaddled until they could reach down and untie the strings of the papoose!

Our little boy was just born 2 days ago, so I'll be practicing these techniques. Great timing for me! ;-)

someone should make a baby snuggie. This would be much easier. Good vid.

@theeastwatch LOL! I am coming down with a cold...it's 71 degrees and I am freezing right now...I was thinking about who I was gonna get to swaddle me up like that and was wondering how difficult it is to unswaddle yourself. ROFL! ;o) Good vid, PN...this is something most people just don't know how to do!

@CrypticCRICKET Haha, no announcements :) There is a severe deficiency of knowlege regarding infant care and survival techniques for babies. I have done only 2 vids, including this one, but I felt like the subject warranted address.

I had no idea what a swaddle was. Seems like something the American Indians would do... cool thanks for the info. I think I'm gonna try and swaddle myself when I goto sleep tonight - my bedroom is cold. -TEW

This is great information. However, too many mothers just aren't picking up on swaddling and baby wearing.

just an idea for another vid: baby food. obviously you recommend nursing in during SHTF, but when they are too old for that but not ready for real food, what would you suggest? just thought you might have some insight.
