Oh my gosh man you are such a lifesaver, I've always been embarrassed to struggle swallowing pills, I learnt how to swallow small pins but I recently got a throat infection and my doctor prescribed capsule sized antibiotics and I've been gagging everytime I try. I used the lean forward technique, and I was stunned on how easily it passed. You are such a life saver thank you🙏🏽🙏🏽

So grateful for this! All my life I have struggled with large pills - gagging and retching which leads to significant anticipatory anxiety. Prescribed a course of huge capsules this week - 4 twice daily and dreading it. Just had the first 4 using your head down technique. Amazing! Slipped down a treat. Really, I cant thank you enough Abraham!

Dr., I used to do the 2nd method.. but I forgot how, but then found this vid, I remembered back, and it worked.

Its not the swallowing part that gets me, its the physiological part of swallowing instead of chewing. How do I fix that?

I got these BIG horrible tasting pills from my doctor, I took one & it got stuck in my throat, it was awful. I finally got it to go down but the taste was terrible & I am supposed to take 20 of these 🤮 & I needed to figure out the best way so I decided to try applesauce. I got a regular spoon & scooped out the applesauce, put one big pill in the middle of the sause & covered it, put it in my mouth & swallowed it, washed it down with milk, you can use water if you don’t like milk. Anyway, it all went down & I never tasted the pill at all . Thank God. Hope this helps.

I’ve tried both methods many times, and they don't work for me. I have even tried practising with m&m’s, and still, I could not get either way to work. Pills just get suck on the tongue, and it won't relax to let them go down. They end up sitting in the back of my mouth or sliding forward. By that point, they are already starting to break down / devolve in my mouth due to water/saliva, and then my gag reflex kicks in; I end up spitting them out, or if by chance it makes it past the tongue, I end up vomiting it back up before it even gets to my stomach. I just can't get them passed the tongue. Can you give some insight into why this is happening to me? And any other suggestion I could try? I really need to be able to take tablets and capsules as I have complex regional pain syndrome and need to be able to take proper analgesics. Thanks.

I have tried both but I am still having trouble. I’d say I’m mostly just scared of choking so as soon as I put the capsule in my mouth it gets really hard to swallow in general. If I do manage to swallow, the capsule just gets blocked by my tongue or sticks to my palate. When I tried the leaning forward method the capsule sometimes floated towards my teeth which made it even more difficult to swallow (if it didn’t do so it was blocked again). Well, I’ll keep trying and hopefully manage to swallow my medication soon.

I am 13 and my parents forced me to take capsules everyday and i had troubles in the first time but after the lean forward i worked quickly really thankful

Also when you use the forward tip method I like to shake my head left to right once or twice to be sure the entire pill is wet in my mouth. I’ve had one have a dry patch and it gets stuck every time. So place pill on tongue. Put water in mouth, tilt forward then a quick gentle left right motion to gently roll that pill around a bit then chin fully forward and swallow. I also pretend in my mind that the pill is really just a sweet candy peanut m&m when I swallow. I say hey it’s just a yummy big M&M you’ve got this! 💜

This worked for me for capsules !! Thanks x

Oh my god lifesaver, always had problems swallowing the smallest of pills and with this technique i managed to swallow a 300mg capsule!

Great tips. Pharmacist are helpful. I take omeprazole with water and iron tablet with orange juice

For the lean forward technique, don't think so much just do it like have a friend distract you.

thanks a lot, had issues with swallowing pills forever now. The lean forward one helped a lot. No Idea why doctors in my area didnt tell me that earlier but thats what the internets for i guess.

I get it, bc capsules have air in them and they float to the top which puts them at the back when you seallow

I guess you tip your head forward (chin down) for capsules because then they float up to the back of your throat in those light gelatin capsules? It's counter-intuitive bc they float? I have always found it helpful to put the water in my mouth first. Edit: This totally worked! Like a dream. I tipped my head forward and it floated right up to the back of my mouth and went down like nothing; didn't even notice it when I swallowed! (Referring to a capsule here. Four, in fact: huge antibiotic capsules required to be taken all at once.) Thank you!!!

man idk why but whenever i try swallowing my capsules it's as if the thing just stays in place while the water goes past it

All of the water gets swallowed except for the pill. Its like its lodged in there at the back of my throat. To be able to swallow, the back of my throat clenches and with it the pill gets stuck. I cant do it

After nearly vomiting after gagging from failing to swallow a pill. I’m scared to try again. I’ll report back. I don’t have a bottle so trying method two. And I’m 53! I used to gag say 1 in 5 times. But now it’s 2 out of 3 tries. And the more I gag the more scared my body is to swallow pills. 😢 I think it’s been worse since I had Covid. Wonder if there is any truth to that, or if it’s co-incidental.

Last week I told my pharmacist about you and your videos. I always swallow my capsules with cold water. For iron tablet i am taking with orange juice.

I put in the big tablet or the capsule, hold it, a sip of water, damp the med, and gulp. Works for me.

If DayQuil and NyQuil gel cap’s floated I’d have no issue with them. Alas they don’t.

I’m new to capsule meditation and I failed at trying to swallow it yesterday and again today I’ve tried the lean forward method but I can’t get it to work . Is there something I could be doing wrong or does anyone else have the same problem?
