My wife learn this in a ballroom dance class and our first time doing this out of class was at a local bar to the song: "GOOD TIME" by Allen Jackson. Everyone was so impressed they cleared the dance floor for us and when the song was over we had a loud applause

@@WestCoastSwingOnline you're great teacher I'm not dancer but I like to watch dances on you tube. But question came to me, when does under arm turn starts, from rock step or from triplet steps to left or triplet steps to the right? Thank you.
@WestCoastSwingOnline
@WestCoastSwingOnline 3 жыл бұрын
@@dariobandar202 the turns happen between the triples. The inside turn happens after the rock step. The outside turn happens after the first triple heading into the second. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. -Brian

can you talk a little bit more about how leaders signal next steps in an improvisational environment? It's cool that you can just loop a basic, basic, outside turn, inside turn, waist roll but often times you watch dancers and they seem to just know what comes next even though each move is random. Especially for moves that seem to have more follower initiation like an inside turn or a left turn where "she goes" first.

Hey Matt, Great question/topic! We launched a new channel for dances like ECS - I'll do a video over there going in depth on this for you! SUBSCRIBE: 👉 bit.ly/2QC3CN7 To try to answer the question here... Lead and Follow works best as teach partner knows more about their roll. ie they have been exposed to more steps and are more familiar with connections and lead and follow principals. In east coast swing specifically.... I think paying attention to how we lead out of the rock step can set the follower up for the pattern that we want next. For instance if I want to just to a throw out... I only need to give a little more energy to the follower where as a basic would need no extra energy. However if I'm going to lead a inside turn I would be cutting the follower off to show her the direction I want her to go. If I wanted to lead a full inside spin... I would have to 'load up the rock step' so she was prepped for the turn. Make sure you subscribe the the new channel and we will do a video on this topic for ya. It might take a couple weeks but I promise we will get it out! 👉 bit.ly/2QC3CN7 Keep dancing! Brian

I'm learning that East Coast swing is a large umbrella with a lot of styles underneath it. A little bit ago I started East Coast classes with an older, well-established couple, and the steps are pretty different -- not so many. It's hard for a beginner (with no experience with dancing) to know where to start. With so many things called "East Coast", I'm wondering how you dance with somebody you have just met. "Do you dance East Coast swing?" It seems that could mean a lot of different things, as well as some being quite simple while others are more complex. I'm just a beginner to dancing, and I'm not at all disparaging or critiquing you as experienced dancers. It's that my "East Coast" and yours seem quite different, and I'm not sure what to make of that.

Welcome to the world of dance! Yes - SWING is a large umbrella and there are lots of different 'swing styles' Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Jitterbug, Shag, Country Swing and more... Most true swing styles have their roots in what we now call Lindy Hop. As swing dance evolved it spun off many different styles. Those styles will always be a little different depending on the area of the country (or world) you're in. The style in this video is the East Coast Swing you will see in any ballroom studio (in america and most of the world) It's not the only style for sure but it is one of the more common ones. Again though, depending on where you're learning it it might have a different flavor depending on your region. If you can find a video of your style of east coast swing - please post it in a comment. I would love to see it and hopefully clarify a bit further. Hope that helps - Keep up the good work. Dancing in all of its forms has so much to offer! As the famous swing dancer Dean Collins once said "It's all swing" Here are some other video (not exactly related to your question) but they might help a bit. How does jitter bug differ from these moves
@WestCoastSwingOnline
@WestCoastSwingOnline 3 жыл бұрын
Hey CJ, Great question. For all intensive purposes they are the same. Typically jitterbug would be faster music and you would replace the triple step with a single step and a hold. We have a article on our website that talks about the similarities and differences of swing dancing. check it out and let me know if you have any questions:www.westcoastswingonline.com/types-of-swing-dance/ Best wishes, Brian
