It's a feature of all modern UI that you have or not have something, depending on conditions you have no idea about. I'm starting to realize that the command-line "nutcases" have been right all along.

@@Cringber167 Most people are using Windows only because it came preinstalled on the PC. I'm guilty of this myself - I know that apps I use in Windows are available in GNU/Linux. So I'm gonna try and switch - that's my fix for the escalating MS rubbish. I've already installed Debian on an extra drive, just haven't completely set up my apps. I've never thought I'd be excited to see a "login:" prompt, but I'm now! (MS will soon require your phone number, to let you use it :-)

It's very intuitive to switch account type inside "your info" :-) It's time to replace all incomprehensible and ever changing UI where I can never find anything, with a chat window where I can just ask "I need local account" and get the right dialog opened.

Yeah same problem. The account I set up was for a child and I was silly enough to be honest about their age. You have no idea what I had to go through to allow them to join my Minecraft realm. The original local account was duplicated and I foolishly deleted it. I should have kept two accounts and then once I had fixed the multiplayer issue removed the new account. Sigh.

My system was the same, but I did click 'sign out of MS account' which made it a local account. You probably figured that out by now, but just in case somebody else wants to know.

After many years I bought a computer in December 2023. Did not know anything about a Microsoft account and used it and it required me to create a password AND pin (I don't really understand the difference). I used your wonderful video to help me develop a local account and I did create a new password. I restarted the computer and there was the new computer name, but it still wanted me to use a pin which was identical to the one I used for the Microsoft account. Confused.

Have you solved this? I have the same problem, am using win 11 Pro and seems all the options to change to a local user are removed. I can sign in with MS password or PIN however I have server connection issues with a Synology NAS that have been mirrored on various blogs that the PIN login is incompatible with synology networking.

All the files on my system were in the same spot after I switch to a local account. Nothing was lost.

I switched to a local account before viewing your video, however, I set it up to use a pin when on startup (instead of leaving the password/pin option blank?). Is there a way I can eliminate having to use the pin at startup with the local account?

I haven't tried... If you don't find a way, I'd imagine you could switch back to the Microsoft account and then switch back again to local and try it that way.
