Nice and very thorough! I love all the explanations of the horses anatomy and why you’re particular about how everything should be placed so you keep your horse protected and pain free. Please keep posting!❤

I ride English and adopted a western horse and saddle. I was very confused over the cinch and how to tie and tighten. Thank you! Mystery solved and seems like I was doing it sloppy, but generally right. Will be able to improve now.

Why would you hook the breast collar clip to the d-ring you would hook the back cinch hobble to? You hook the breast collar clip in the first ring and the back cinch hobble to the second one.

You forgot to use the latch on the Breast strap, with the Latigo strap. Also, those leather keepers you attached the breast harness straps to , are not designed for any significant weight (which is what the breast harness is there for). They are only held on by one small little screw. You can use the rings on your saddle, or if you really need the breast collar have some proper keepers installed. If your not riding up some fairly steep ground, or pulling something with your saddle horn, you probably don't need them.

Keep in mind his age, build, and health requirements. The owner knows more about the horse the we do.

Thank you for your educated comment! Yes, all horses' weigh/physical appearance depends on their age, built, health requirements, breed, ect. Gunner in this video is UTD on everything, including his teeth, but is a senior horse so keeping weight on him is difficult in the Winter. He has access to pasture, & is fed hay and grain daily.

I'm gonna give you some advice because you honestly look like your actually English and just got a western saddle to ride English in. Western saddles have specific D rings for breastplates, those are keepers, thats how you break your keepers, if your saddle is sliding back those keepers will break, and that's how you pull your conchos out and rip your tree, if your saddle doesn't have, don't use a breastplate, use a pulling collar or rig one, rivet and stitch. Also you don't muscle western saddles on, those synthetic things are very light, genuine leather saddles with strong reliable trees weigh up to 30kg, strong good trees and well built saddles weigh alot, your not gonna lift 25kg head level every time, and your supposed to keep everything on the saddle for convenience, there are maybe 5 ways of holding the saddle but you swing the saddle, not place it down, you don't baby a horse, their not fragile, we rope of these animals and they work hard for us, trust us, and love us, if you baby a horse all its life, it's alot more scared of things. I'm seeing you haven't been fly kicked by a horse yet, painful to say the least, you never pick up any of your cinches with your right hand, had a friend who got a broken elbow because he reached with his right hand and obviously hes in the kick zone, horse got stung by a bee and kicked, landed him square in the elbow, always stand at the shoulder and reach with your left hand, if your at the shoulder your out of the kick zone. Also you don't crank up the cinch while a horse is standing still with western saddles, that's how you make a horse hate a saddle and hate being cinched, you just nip it up, then walk them a minute, then you feel how much looser it is, then you make it your final hole. Also any hackamore, anything bitless sits just just above the cartilage, look at a bosal, it does not work on the nose, it works on the muscle and nerve on the chin, when a bosal is on, the heel knot should hang against the lip, and there should be a finger in between, and the top hangs just in the middle between cartilage and bone, a chin strap for a leverage bit sits in the same place, there is a groove right below above the lip, a chin strap hangs in that groove, a leverage bit is useless without the strap, that's what gives the signal, not just the bit in the mouth , just like a bosal is useless if it sits up near the eyes, same with side pull, halter, hackamore, loping hackamore, same for you side pull, the chin strap should sit in that groove.

Hi, I appreciate the concern for my horse in the video. Although this video was filmed several years ago, it's really important not to make assumptions (ask instead) about horses as all are very different, & some, like humans, suffer from chronic conditions or are going through things that may cause their body condition to be low. Gunner is a horse I rescued who was emancipated, & at the time of this video I was working closely w/our vet to get him to a healthier weight, which he did get to. He has laminitis, ringbone & other issues that were being addressed too. 👍 Our vet gave us the clear to do light riding for him, as it would help w/his stiffness & arthritis. Have a great day!
