I had this happen to me before also when using oat product in one of my soaps. I believe it's because the oat product on top (especially at low temps) didn't reach the same warm temps as the rest did during saponification, which is why it's much lighter on top...because it didn't "cook" on top like the rest did inside. I could be wrong though. I didn't use stearic and had the same result as you just did and broken down, this is the only reasoning I could come up with. As usual, you've created another beauty ♥ Love you!

I was making hot process soap as a somewhat newbie. One of my batches was seizing up on me as I put it into the mold. Once it finished hardening, I took it out and found that there was air pockets (even though I banged it down as much as possible) and it was one ugly loaf of soap on top as well lol! I rebatched it with a little extra water and the loaf turned out beautifully.

i made a lard, vegetable oil soap and put pectin in it. the pectin has citric acid in too. anyway it seemed to have almost turned out like yours. smaller white spots like cream of wheat size. i put the pectin in it cause i had bought this shampoo called apple pectin by lamour i think it was, about 27 years ago. and i just loved it, its still around.

Huh, it looked like soda ash to me at first but that didn't make sense considering the extent of the issue--it HAD to have been stearic spots from the low temp. I can't think of anything else it could have been. This was one FASCINATING video, thank you so much for it! I'm def going to watch my soaping temp closer on the low end from now on.

Hi 👋 thank you for sharing this with us!. It turned out absolutely beautiful. I’m new to soap making and wondered if you / any of the lovely soapers here have any advice for me. The bars I made previously no problem, one scent accelerated trace but it was fine. I just attempted a melon 🍉 bar. It was fine split batch added colors all going great added sent and once colour had to stick blend as i needed that at a thicker trace. Turned around had all the colors had thickened and suized up so much I was so annoyed but I refuse to throw it after all the effort so I managed to get all of it into a mold, the white was literally crumbling balls. So I know it’s not going to look pretty. I don’t have a crock pot, can I put it in a normal pot on the stove? And is there a certain time limit on when you can rebatch it, for example winthin 48 hours etc? I know mixing it won’t be the layered colour and probably will be a green brown but maybe I can still make it nice. Thanks so much everyone x

Do you think it was the actual oatmeal you saved and put in the oils that made it curdle?
@RoyalAppleBerry

No, I put the oatmeal in after the oat milk lye solution curdled. Honestly, I think it curdled because my oat milk was too thick. I've tried a different method in another soap and it works fantastically. Thank so much for the suggestion though love!

I've soap at those temps as well. The oat milk was indeed not rancid and the ph wasn't high at all. Everyone's recipe is different and reacts differently. What you are saying is certainly not what happened with the soap I made.
