Great video! Very informative. Thank you for making it. Hoping you could pls clarify… Why is the rail ticket price different when paying in cash vs using an IC card? I noticed on the navi app that sometimes the cash price is cheaper than the IC price and vice versa. Also, do we still need to get a rail ticket when using an IC? Or do we just need to scan the IC when we enter the station and again when we exit destination station? Thank you. Pls keep posting these informative video for us newbies to Japan. :)

Thank you so much for this clear and very helpful video it really clarifies the system a great deal. I have one question: In a lot of videos people walk through certain gates (eg at Tokyo Station) that seem to be general entrances to shopping or transit areas rather than the actual train platforms. Nevertheless people click through those gates with their IC card. Does that trigger a debit against the sum held on the IC card or does that only occur when passing in and out of the train platform gates? Many thanks Ed
