As the cask / beer is open to air, how long does it stay fresh? Can you set-up with a bagged keg (like PolyKeg)?

Ideally, cask beer should be consumed within 5 - 7 days of tapping. Darker and/or higher ABV beers will generally keep for a further 2 - 3 days. Something to bear in mind is that the quality of the beer will quickly deteriorate, however, if the cask tap is not clean or not stored at the correct cellar temperature 11c, poly keg is a different system thanks

Shouldn’t there be a check valve fitted to the feed line?

not on a short run, only if the run if from a distance below as it could run back to keg if pump gets worn thanks
