How to target LARGE Flathead | Tips & Tricks

Күн бұрынAhoy legends! This week I hit the estuaries targeting BIG fish with BIG lures fishing along side good mates Nick and Richie. We wanted to really focus in on landing a large Flathead, so that meant using large swimbaits, plastics and jerkbaits. Although this method doesn't usually yield high numbers of fish, we were catching from the very first cast of the morning and manage to boat some absolute crackers. It really does bring validation to the saying, Big baits, Big Fish! Hope you enjoy the episode!

Got here from Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe episode one. During a driving lesson, Slim Halliday tells Eli Bell how he coped in H.M. Prison Brisbane, a.k.a., Boggo Road Gaol: "Go fishin' in your mind off Redcliffe Jetty. Catch a big bloody flathead, cook it, watch the sun go down." I reckon he means a good ol' 70cm flattie for a bloody great batch of fillets for the iron frypan. Right-o, stay stead'ly on the trolling motor peddly and cheers for the fun! Got comments into three figures.

Another great video Sammy. I caught a big girl, 89cm, many years ago whilst drifting a live bait. Incredibly she actually jumped out of the water a few times. Great memories. 👍👍👏👏

Corner of Caruso. Huge 80’s live there. Deep down. Released a couple there one at 83 an another at 84. Bit further north is a great sallow spot I’ve done some good ones too.

Thanks for another flathead video, Sammy! Got a request for you- I’ve been chasing the big flathead on the MMD glide whiting and big crossfire bent lures, but having no luck. Can you make a good video showing your retrieval techniques for the glide baits and surface lures? It’s the only thing stopping me from catching the big girls at the moment. Cheers.

Thats some weird looking fish right there! Looks like fun targeting them though.Looks like a hybrid cross between a catfish and a walleye or something! Are they good eating or strictly just for sport? We dont have all those weird ass species here in the US🍺🍺

Flathead just lay on the bottom and blend into the surrounding. They are excellent eating. Over 70cm the males turn into breeding females.

our salt cats don't get that big but a fresh cat that length would weigh 20lbs and be 8" thick.....another freak of the natural world........got to go looking for the flat head story and see what ecological story is behind a fish that looks like it has been run over
