I was wondering if it matters that I use a ten frame that is 5 on top and 5 on the bottom. I see that the book’s ten frame is 10 all the way across.

She talks about math recommendation books in 52:24, but it sounds like just go to the library. I had the same question at 40:39...also at 58:13 she mentions the podcast your morning basket podcast episode 18 for some book recommendations she lists

@@kdasilva100 Her books are "Addition Facts that Stick" and "Subtraction Facts that Stick". She also has books for younger and older age kiddos.

Interesting that the 10 frame is basically the same as an abacus. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm glad I grew up with one in my room!

Exactly my thought. Although the ten frame is less sophisticated because it doesn't have place value. I think it could be a good stepping-stone to using an abacus.

There's more uses for a ten frame if you are are using different colored counters and things of this nature that the abacus is not so easy to alter for. There are more differences that she answers to as well if you listened to the whole video.

A true abacus, though, only adds up to 9 on each row, so for this purpose an abacus wouldn't work. An abacus is an excellent tool for teaching place values and regrouping, however. I've had great success helping children understand those concepts using an abacus.

Always drives me BONKERS when someone feels the need to slurp on a drink while making a video. If you’re that thirsty, record the video later when you’re hydrated. Sipping and long swallows are beyond annoying. Blah. Thanks for the video though
