Here is a video on how to tell or know if your bird is sick! Birds are really good at hiding illnesses so I shared a bunch of tips and signs that your bird is sick! Learning how to read your bird's poop and knowing your bird's weight are good early indicators of sickness. I'm not a vet so if your bird has any of these signs that I mentioned, please contact your avian vet for help!

My cockatiel passed out today, peacefully in my hand. Right from the moment, I noticed that she refused to eat, being quiet, sat sadly on the floor, not being able to balance herself on the perch, I knew that she was sick. I got her medicine (for common sickness in birds) and kept her warm with a heating bulb - sadly I had to cure her this way because my city is lock-down and no avian vets are opened nor anyone can go out. She got well after a night, she craved food, flew around, chirped loudly, being extremely affectionate, played with her mate, acted completely as normal. 3 days after that - she got sick again, and this time things didn't end well... She couldn't eat, couldn't even walk toward the warmth from the heating bulb... I still cannot figure out the cause of her death. My heart is broken into pieces . . .

@@stefigachadimova7479 wrong, go to an avian vet not a regular vet because an avian vet knows all the common sicknesses for birds which might not be for regular vets. If you have experience with avian vets, then you probably got a lazy vet, other than that, avian vets are the best.

I learned about morning poop in birbs when i was caring for a little fledgling robin, about the size of a golf ball and weighed just 40 grams. I went to check on him in the morning, gave him some pats, and he climbed on my finger. Sounds normal, until he took the biggest sh*t to body ratio I’ve ever seen. Out of curiosity I took the paper towel with the poop and weighed it. Fourteen.Point.Five.Grams. This little dude shat roughly half his body weight. I was impressed.

I had to put down my conure about a year ago, He suddenly got sick and progressively got worse, I searched for an avian vet but there was none in my area, I went to a regular vet as they were the only ones that would take my conure. They checked him out and told me he was fine and charged me $400, I had to put him down 2 days later because he couldn’t walk or eat anymore and I did not want him to suffer any more it was devastating for me.

This has been so helpful! Especially the part about only having urine/mostly urine. I've had my conures for a little over a month and sometimes their poops are mostly urine and I've been worried that they were sick or getting sick since googling didn't give me anything. The air is quite dry so they drink a lot and get a lot of veggies so I assume that's the reason why their poops are sometimes only/mostly urine! Thank you for the video!

Another great video! I know this is the sort of stuff that took me a while to learn when I was a new bird owner. Would love to hear about your experience with your avian vet and finding a good one. I haven’t found one I’ve liked in my area yet (most of them are general “exotic and avian” vets and the last one I took Callie too broke a ton of her blood feathers while she was doing an exam of her wing!!! AND the vet apparently had the proper avian certification..... ugh anyway it was so scarring for both of us 😭) tips of what to look for and what questions to ask the vet to make sure they know what they are doing would be helpful 🙂

Great video, I can see that you did a lot of research. My budgie Dollie died a few months ago after she lived with us for 12 years. We immediately noticed something was wrong; she was silent, she sat with 'wide' feathers (don't know the english expression for this sorry, but i hope you get what i mean), she was less active than normal and at times she would make gagging movements. I knew something was wrong and called the vet. They told me to wait it out for a night, as birds can also have a cold and she might get better. The next day she was not better at all, she was even sitting on the floor of the cage and couldnt sit upright anymore. It broke my heart. We went to the vet and got some medicine for lung parasites. The meds made her lively again at first, but over the course of a few weeks this cycle repeated itself and we knew we could not save her anymore. I guess I just wanted to say that when you spend a lot of time with your birds, you will notice if something is off. Just make sure to call the vet, you know your bird and you will often be right.

What kind of avian vet would tell you to wait a night?! That's terrible!! I'm so sorry to hear that. Action should have been taken by the vet as soon as you told them. Even if it had not helped I know for a fact that one extra night certainly didn't either. Poor bird and poor owner I'm so sorry you went through that 😥

@@funkyfreakyandfabulous9743 yes I dit not expect that advice either.. she also did not do any tests except feeling the crop and immediately gave medication. The next week I went to another vet further away and he actually did do tests (but it was still unclear what the problem was). In the end I think she was mainly just a bit old. 12, nearly 13 years old is quite old for a budgie I read.

My dear cockatiel passed away from lung cancer. That means no poop problem, no weigh loss but a Sligh sound when breathing without any tail bobbing at first. We supposed it might have been aspergillosis at first. Didn't see anything on the radio so she got a 2 months antibiotics and antifungal treatment which seemed to have worked at that moment. Then, two months later it started again. This time I decided to put her under anesthesia to do a scanner and blood work. So yeah. 2/3 of her lungs and air sacs were getting eaten up by the tumors and a month after doing the exams I had to let her leave. I miss you little bird May what happened to you help others to know what's going on with their birdie to have more time to say goodbye than what I had with you.

I was wondering because my bird was laying on the floor with his belly down and we were worried if he was ok he was also letting us pet him which is unusual for him because he Doesn’t like us petting him. Any suggestions of what to do to make him be more happier and active?

Im quite worried about one of my lovebirds since i never really heared him making any sounds besides a kind of whispering or hissing. Sometimes he also moves his head and crop weirdly like hes either catching air or trying to swallow something. They are still very young (about 22 weeks now) and i don't know if its due to his young age or a disease😟

No, never keep a bird and a dog together. Watch them all the time, as prey animal, bird should never be around dog, cat, or anything that hunt bird.

I have a parakeet, and he has dark green poops when he freshly poops, but when it dries or I’m not looking it’s black poop that’s dried with a little bit of white is that normal?

lately my bird has been taking in large amounts of air (long breaths whilst looking up) she has also been drooping her wings. What could this be a sign of?

So i got a peach-faced lovebird that's a little over 6 months now and every since he came to us he's been acting a bit strange. He's been getting really frustrated and when he does he starts choking and needs help to puke his food out which also never helps cause he just keeps flapping his wings, running around and choking. We thought that maybe the sunflower seeds were too big for him and he might be choking on those so we stopped giving them to him but it didn't stop. This month we thought that maybe it was getting better but these past days it only got worse and worse so we finally took him to vet. She listened to how he was breathing and said he was fine. I know he's not so we showed her one of the videos where he obviously was choking and getting frustrated over it and all she said was "Oh he's just playing". I don't know what else to do. I know I'm not overreacting and vet was my last option. It will only keep happening but apparently he's "fine". Anyone knows what could be wrong with him and any tips on what to do now?

I found out my budgie is vomiting which is CONSIDERED A SIGN OF SICKNESS. I took it to a vet I've known for, and he said: Sometimes males express their affection for other parrots or humans. Sometimes, however, it is due to some inflammation of the neck. If the vomit does not smell sour and unpleasant, it is not a big problem. If there is more smelly porridge, the diet will need to be adjusted. To give scalded, boiled rice chamomile tea. No sharp seeds for a while.

I have an 8 week cockatiel that just came home with me last week. She is still in formula. Her poop has heated and urine. The feces seems not as solid as some of your pictures. Is that normal with baby formula?
