They may look very similar, but there are some key differences. In this video I'll show you how to tell them apart, and also share a bit of information about each of our tortoises at the farm.

Oh man, you got us so intrigued and in the end it was a to be continued. We are rather new subscribers but have really enjoyed your videos. Can't wait to see how this ends. We just noticed a Kamp Kenan video that talks about the possibility of the hybrid but have not seen it yet. Love love all of the animal education content on KZfaq! We really love the tort vids like yours especially.

That's a tough one Mr. Sam but I would say since there's 2 males together I would put my money on it being a aldabra. We all know what a male Gal.. would do with another male. What im not sure of but a good question for you with all your experience is that if it only has partial gal.. in him if he would still have the same reaction as a full gal.. male with other males? Great work and I look forward to more great videos as ALWAYS you produce. Happy holidays

The sounds they make 😮!! to me galaps are easy to identify because they have sticky eyes (normal for them to clean their eyes as you mentioned in other videos). while aldabras have bright black eyes and no stickness. Apart from their head shape which aldabras are smaller.

Scarlet or mineral oil I use the Scarlet to stop white fungal growth you get in the wetter states. I use it for about 40 years now, I think it works great and has some good benefits, I guess you could go crazy putting it on constantly but we only use it a few times a year and i use it on the hatchlings so you can see any imperfections, if the shell is dirty you cant see everything. Just over 1% of Aldabras have that missing scute. So this animal is an example of the giant Aldabra tortoise with the missing scute it’s not a different species or sub species and it’s not a hybrid

Hi Tank, hey buddy! You are an Aldabra! I think I remember this, Sam, that you have to go by the shape of the head and that the no knuckle scoot happens in a small number of animals! I am still waiting to hear if my cruise will be canceled. I hope that you are all doing well and I will still be coming to Florida as planned❤️

I know that giant tortoises, due to their high life expectancy, can`t be said to be in a hurry to reproduce; but has there ever been a hybrid between the two subspecies of giant tortoise ?
@KRscience
@KRscience 5 жыл бұрын
Could it be an Aldabra with a missing scute? I know split scutes are common, but I'm not sure if missing our conjoined scutes are possible too.

Yes Aldabra less than 1% have that "Abnormality" you have to look at head shape not shell differences.
