The Masterclip Cordless Outback Sheep and Cattle Shears - How to find the right tension for the Outback shears.
Tensioning the Outback shears is done manually using the pitch of the motor sound as a guide. After oiling the blades and clipper head, start with the tension set loosely then turn the tension knob until you hear the change in pitch and blades no longer rattle. Test the clipper on the fleece or coat and check they are cutting well. If the tension is set too tight, the pitch will lower and the motor will strain to move the blades, generating too much heat. The tension set too loose may cause the cutter may become dislodged from the conical pins on the crows feet. Clip with the tension set as loosely as possible but whilst still providing the best cutting performance to preserve the life of the clipper blades and motor.
