This video shows how to DIY terminate the CAT7 Installation cable with a male connector.
For this installation you will need a CAT 7 cable, a strip tool, scissors, the shielded connector, a crimp tool, pliers and wire clippers.
I often hear people say that you need to buy a whole new crimp tool for Cat 7 Cables. You would only need a new one if you were going to use a connector which inst standard size. But these days you can get standard sized shielded like the ones in my video.
This crimp tool only cost me £3, there is no point splashing out.
Instructions
1. Use the cable stripper to score the outside jacket leaving enough length for some exposed mesh. You will only need to rotate once as you do not want to damage the wires or shielding inside the jacket.
2. Pull off the outer jacket to reveal the mesh foil shield. Fold it back and cut to the approximate length of the termination connector.
3. Cut off the mesh to where you have folded it.
4. There is an additional foil shield surrounding each pair. Remove the shield from each pair.
5. Untwist the pairs and order them from left to right with the connector contacts up:
Please refer to the video to avoid confusion.
8 = Brown
7= Brown White
6 = Green
5 = Blue White
4 = Blue
3 = Green White
2= Orange
1 = Orange White
This is the standard T568B wiring pinout for all normal household use, crossover or Type A is only used in industry or other complex situations.
6. Insert the wires into the connector, pushing them in until they push on the end of the connector near the contacts.
7. Insert the connector into the crimp hole with the contacts being where the teeth are, and squeeze as much as you can. You should hear a hollow 'click'.
8. Flatten down some of the exposed mesh.
9. Get some electrical tape (ideally the same colour as the cable) and cover the exposed mesh and fix it also to the connector.
10. Repeat for the other end of the cable
11. Now test it.

At 3:57 Yes it _does_ matter which wire goes to which pin. It really does. You _must not_ split the pairs.
@TetraSky
@TetraSky 5 жыл бұрын
Technically, no, it doesn't matter if each end of the wire are configured the same. A wire is a wire, the color doesn't make it any more special. It's only used as a guide to make sure you don't fuck up.

@Muhovc 5 жыл бұрын
@@TetraSky You must not split the PAIRS. You can technically make up your own standard, but communication requires 2 wires, and those must be twisted to reduce crosstalk. 8 wires = 4 communication paths.

This is one of the worst cable crimps i have ever seen - On the + side, I applaud your DIY approach but you need coaching on how to do this right. The shielding should be under the crimped end to help the longevity of the connectors and protect from attenuation. for newbies, you will find that starting with 2-3" individual strands is easier to work with -- Get your wires in order and straight, trim the ends so the sheath to the end of the wire is ~0.5 inches and add the wires into the jack via the correct pin order. Hold there and add the jack to the crimp tool and clamp it down. as you get better, you wont need as much lenght/waste. Cheers

tell me about it! I build about 200-300 Cat-5e cables a year in my job, and I cringed all the way through... wow. even DIY, your quality will only be as good as your tools... kiddie paper scissors? really?BTW, no load bar, no shield crimp=cat-6 or barely cat-6a.PAINFUL!

Simple and clean video. Exactly the way I like it! If the crimping tool is bad, thatś another thing! I just comment the the way the video is made, not the tools or other things in the video, OK?

I get why the Haters are Bitching... But Trust me at one point THEY ALL DID it too... in there life ...just like you did So Dont listen to them young man, but for your Next try go on Ebay or an electrical Supply House & look into getting RJ45 PLUG BOOTS that coverup the base and come in many colors.......they slide on the cable and when your done you slide them back up and they lock in place and some come all the way upto the RJ45 locking tab and make them look Pro you can get a bag of them for a few bucks........So keep at it and just make sure you test the wire after you made it and keep on TRYING!!

This is extremely bad! You need to cut your wires shorter to allow the outer covering to enter the end connector. I applaud your effort but in the long run this connection will fail sooner rather then later and the signal over this connection will have a lot of crosstalk! If you were in one of my classes you would get a failing grade on this connection.

this is not even a cat 7 cable. This is tops a cat 6 shielded cable... Difference: cat 6 wires are 1.35mm, cat 7 wires are 1.5mm. Problem, they do not fit in the regular RJ45 plugs, so don't get fooled by the title!!

This is one of the worst cable crimps i have ever seen. He didn't measure the length needed before you crimp. He didn't insert the cable all the way into the connector. Then to top it off he uses electrical tape! Just bad dude. I wonder if you have cross or static signals.

the shield was not properly terminated so the use of the cat 7 is wasted, there is no protection against cross-talk for example. wasted money. The tools used are not sharp enough to do a professional job

Bad! BAD advice! for beginners do not follow this videos advice. This person clearly doesn't know what he is doing. The twisted pairs must be used as PAIRS! I worked in networking for 10 years I know what I am talking about.

Fact is I design implement and program networks for Cisco customers I am usually not the one running and terminating cable but That is where I got started years ago. point is that there are plenty of good videos showing the propper way to terminate cat6 / 7 shielded cable... but this isnt one of them.
