This video shows according to Pfaff manual how to thread a Pfaff 1245/706.
As we can see, at the beginning of the video this machine uses needles from 110 (European measure) =18(American measure) to 180=24
For this demonstration I have used a 120 needle, and standard upholstery polyester thread 92.

Thank you for your inspiring videos. i am an upholsterer for thirthy years in germany and still learning. so i am very glad that i discovered your channel. anyway, as i see you a are threading in an different way than we do. the most people do it your way, which needs to hold the thread at the beginning so you dont get a mess on the downside of the material. so as i see on 2:27 you dont go over the little pin on the first spring where you ajust the tension. so there is a reason for the pin. just go over the pin and the to the next thing in the front and you will never have to hold the thread anymore at the beginning. it makes everything alot mor easy. for you all the best cheers from germany

I also used to thread passing the thread over the little pin . Big Big industrial Thank you. Great job in showing how to thread the machine. I am a little slow, but by slowing down the video i could go step by step, seeing your demo and my running to my machine and then back again, then seeing then running back. I do little industrial sewing. Sp, I forget. Now I got this.

THANK YOU! I have been fighting thread issues for months with my 1245 and have asked a bunch of questions on a bunch of forums but never got an answer that fixed my problems. This video showed me two slight threading mistakes, that no one else mentioned, that appear to have been causing the issues.

@@Cechaflo I wasn't running the thread through both of the eye holes on the L shaped bracket on the front of the machine. My manual is for a double needle machine and it just shows the thread passing through one hole for each thread so that was how I did it on my single needle machine. Second I was looping the thread behind the pin that aligns the thread tensioners.

Hello Ian, Thanks for telling us what happened. In fact, Pfaff enginners designed every and each hole where thread should pass through. This avoids fraying of thread. As for the thread behind the pin it does not affect not at all. Some machines are threaded behind this small pin. Have you already seen bobbin winders related video? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iqmjnqd4nq_JmGg.html In a next video, I will show how to adjust tensions, then about how to choose right needles, and so forth.

The issue is the upper thread does not freely run downwards. Check out one by one, all the holes and slots where the thread passes through. Perhaps the problem is in the tension disks. The disk surface should be soft to let the thread slide. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpNgq8Slv7zKhqs.html

hi, at 2:30 the thread isn't supposed to go around the tension wheel up to the little metal pin, resting on it then going down to the second wheel with the spring ? I use a pfaff 145 and i thread it as I describe above, does I'm doing it wrong ?

Because of, I had another machine trade marks in the past and used to pass the thread around the little steel pin I did the same on my Pfaff 1245 (min Twenty six:45 of this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oq2YorKk15-Vop8.html) After reading the 1245 manual I changed my mind and followed the Pfaff rules. In fact, it does not affect anything and in my particular opinion the thread is guided much better to avoid fraying. It could be thought thread could cut the little pin, but it is a hard steel. My pfaff is identical to yours. I have always used GB needles of the 135 X 17 class. I am sure I remembered reading somewhere this was correct for 1245. Now I am surprised to see in your video you are using 134 X 35. Am I completely wrong? What do you suggest?

Dear Joe, TBH, I have not put attention to needle systems. The needles I am using work out good for my 1245 machine. My machine needles are 43 mm long. I cannot say with precision if you are wrong or correct. Please, read these forum posts. The 135x17 is 44mm which moves the hook slightly lower in the scarf when I use your size. Both work fine but I'll stick with mine as I dont see a difference in performance. My bigger problem is I need to replace my presser foot bar. I found 2 sources in China but the part they swear is correct is too short and has very little hollow for the center spring. I ruined the screw thread so my presser foot is unstable. I have been getting by with it but It really becomes a problem with piping tunnel feet. Any suggestions on a source that I can actually contact?

@@joefish1498 Dear Joe, I have not not clearly understood the issue. Which screw thread are you referring? Is the little bolt for presser foot (big rear foot) adjustment? It's the shoulder screw that actually holds the rear foot to the bar. I over tightened it and stripped the threads in the bar.

@@joefish1498 It seems I had the same issue when I bought my used machine. The threaded hole (millimetric) housed in the bar was stripped. I bought a flute tap one millimiter thicker approx. and made new thread. To give rounds to the tap I used a pair of pressure pliers. A small lever to hold taps would work out much better. Anyways no much thread to make in that bar hole. I hope it helps.

It can be with no problem. It seems much better if goes around that pin. I did it before with another machine and with this Pfaff too. I have already seen it. As mentioned before, I was used to do it that way for a very long time. But after watching the original manual I changed my mind and go according to original Pfaff manual the factory engineers designed for some reason. Anyways, it does not affect anything, both ways are good.
