I have watched dozens of mala making videos. Your's is one of the very best. Concise. Logical. Good, but not tooo much, detail. Clear staging and videography. As a learning professional, I can truly say, Good Work!

I've watched a few videos before I found yours. I was nearly put off trying to do it myself bc the instructions had been so overly complicated. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to succinctly demonstrate this in a way that clicked for me. ✌️

Out of all the tutorials, this one was by far the easiest to follow. After being confused by the first 5, this immediately gave sense to all the other needlessly complicated video tutorials. I should have started out here but than I probably wouldn’t have appreciated this one as much. Thank you for teaching me how to do this 🙏

Thank you for this video, the information you presented was exactly what I needed. As I watched you tie the slider knot it looked very familiar, it's the same knot I have used to make Chinese teapot braids between the handle and lid. I found I would get lost tying it as to which side was which side and finally put a small knot at the end of the strand that first goes under the two center strands (the right strand you started the knot with). That way when I got lost, I could find where I was and I didn't have to start over -- I took a while to figure this out. Thank you again. _/\_ 马丁云山

How many beads should a wrist mala have? I've seen 12 beads, 17, and even 19 beads. The only assumption I can make is that the number should be able to be divided into the traditional 108 beads evenly. (e.g. 108÷12=9, 108÷18=6, etc) And the guru bead is not actually counted and is more of a place holder. If there is a deeper meaning regarding the number of beads, I would love to know.

I used to be able to make the lama/guru knot on a mala. However since my mini stroke in 2011 I haven't been able to do it any longer. I am looking to do it for my 108 bead mala as the cord broke after many years use. However, even this video is a bit too fast for me though I enjoy watching it.

Could you do the knot with only two strings rather than 4? At the same speed as other videos are way too fast, besides I've only got one eye.

Thank you 💙 I don't and can't find guru beads.. what should I do? I fear that mala beads are becoming a fashion in th west. Imsee alot of people wearing thrm just for the "look". It disappoints me
@LMinem3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. One of my peeves with my mala is that it always loosens up after a month of use, even when strung on cord that is not supposed to stretch. This should allow me to tighten the mala as needed... unless the sliding knot somehow gets too slippery. Well, we will see. I will be doing this today.
@LMinem3 жыл бұрын
OK, I did this. Took the mala for a test spin, and it seems to be working. I should drop back in a month and report again. Attractive knots.

Instead of cutting the string and burning the end of the knots could I just leave some cord hanging down past the braided knots without sealing the ends of the knots? Thank you
@PinkLotusThangka6 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that. I'm not sure it may get a little frayed but its fine to improvise as you prefer!!
@laurelcolton6 жыл бұрын
I think you may be using special cord (you called it "mala cord") because not all thread or cord can be burned to create the needle-like ends or the little melted knots you get when you burn it. So, can you tell me the exact brand info. for the cord you are using? Thanks very much.
@GaryGazmanF16 жыл бұрын
The cord is referred to as mala cord and bought in Nepal. It doesn't have a particular brand name. You can find it here - www.pinklotus.co.uk/view_shop.asp?cat=14&subcat=127&subcategory=Prayer-Mala-Cord

I see that you are burning the ends of the string. I am using silk thread for my beading and it's not working. Can you give some pointers?
@Eowyn775 жыл бұрын
Maybe close your mala with a snake knot? It's not adjustible, but until a couple of years ago that was the standard knot for Tibetan Buddhist malas. You'll find a lot of tutorials on youtube, just search for paracord snake knot.
