College ultimate player here! I see a lotttttt of comments pertaining to disc wobble and I think I might be able to help out a bit. I see so many people saying "more spin," but in reality, it has more to do with plane alignment than simply adding more spin once you have the basic technique down. Perhaps a metaphor will help Imagine this: You have a large knife and you want to cut a stick of butter straight down the middle. The most important thing to do so is to keep the knife at the same exact angle as how you push the knife through the butter... If the knife is tilted left or right, and you push straight down to cut, it will not be a clean cut. The same is true with frisbee, if you follow. make sure the disc is cutting the air upon release at the same angle that you release it. This can be corrected by examining and correcting the angle at which you should hold the disc before releasing with a big wrist snap. Hope this helps ;)

+Lukas D You shouldn't have to use IO to keep it flat unless their is wind. It is not ideal to use a bend approach when you actually want to throw straight to the target. Even though both will end roughly in the same spot how fast it is getting there is different. If a player has a problem with the disc turning left on them they need to learn to throw it completely flat instead of just compensating for the turn.

@REGROSS527 Very good question. The reason I like keeping the disc vertical is for a couple different reasons. 1) It allows me to us fakes a lot faster and easier 2) I will be able to generate more spin on the disc by using towel whip method 3) If your able to throw a hammer it allows you to go straight into a hammer throw. Hope that helped!!!

That vertical tip starting out was something I was suprised/impressed to see. When I just started learning flicks I had trouble straightening the disc, but if you start with the disc down it got a lot easier. Good work here.
@BrodieSmith
@BrodieSmith 13 жыл бұрын
@ex0tan oh I think your talking about grip strength. When hucking a forehand I grip it and rip it. The more pressure you can create between the inner and outer rim of the disc the more rotation u can generate. For shorter throws its ok to not have such a tight grip to help improve your accuracy.

One of the things I really like about both this and the backhand video, are when you encourage players to practice throws with just a limited wrist snap. Learning that solid wrist snap will make the transition to high releases, low releases, or other throwing variations much easier. I also like when Alex gets that cute little dimple when he throws in slow motion. Can you do a video on how to do that?

I am really impressed by all of the Bro Tips so far. I've played ultimate for over 5 years and I just started coaching (a group of enthusiastic middle schoolers!). I'm really interested in seeing how this project progresses. How about footage of the most common mistakes that new recruits make while learning to throw and examples of what you do to help correct them? A side-by-side slow-mo comparison of a good vs. a bad throw would be really useful I think!

@biblicalsoultaker Extending those last 2 fingers helps you stabilize the disc in your hand better. Gives you better control on throwing the disc not just straight, but also when you start to curve the disc. We can make another video showing why its important later if you like.

One crucial thing I discovered from this video as opposed to others is that I wasn’t “hugging” my index finger against the rim/wall of the disc. I was pressing it flat against the “floor” of the disc. Once I saw in this video that he hugged the side, all my throws got way better. Frickin hallelujah moment. Thank you!! 0:44

My goal is to join my school's frisbee club, but I want to get down the basic throws like the forehand and the hammer. It took me nearly 4 hours of practice, but I finally got it down! Flight path is nearly straight almost every time and I tried my max distance with it and it was about 25-30 yards straight! My forearm is sore, but it is totally worth it! Thanks Brodie for helping me sort out my forehand throw!
