only problem with that, its wrong, since you are losing tension at 2 points. you need to wrap the lose end around that loop to get a blackwall hitch. this way you can pull, build up tension and wont lose any of it.

@@benbb1000 bowline in the end of the line, run the line around the tree, pull a small pocket thru the bowline, stick a robust stick in that pocket, pull tight and adjust as needed, and you've created a quick release marlin spike hitch. Pull the stick out, and the marlin spike hitch comes undone easy peasy.

A year ago I had flu and spent one afternoon watching (and rising through) every truckers hitch video that came up in a search. There are many options, with various different knots involved, but absolutely none had such a good way of explaining how to tie it. I am again ill and am working my way through the tarp videos which are very enjoyable. Thank you.

Hi Dan - I've been helping out during the school summer holidays (in the UK) teach 10 year olds some outdoor skills, including building tarp shelters. I've just watched your video, which is now EXACTLY how we're gonna teach the kids to tie the truckers hitch. I'm sure they'll enjoy learning the hitch but, more importantly actually remember how to tie it!

Hey, just want to say thank you. I recommend this video when learning everything about this knot. Ive been tying knots for a few hours the past couple days, going knot crazy. This is the most well defined video i've come across. I noticed a few times when i was tyingthe hitch, it was binding on itself and couldnt figure out why.... im one of those "i need to know why though, kinda guys." The way you explained it is superb. I always enjoy and learn from your videos! Several knot books show tying a butterfly knot or other needlessly complicated knot for this! Your method works fast and easy! I’ve always made a tight bight in the cord, then form a loop and pull the bight through it and tighten. It’s quick and dirty, but I believe your way is even quicker! Stay well, stay safe!

OMG THANK YOU. I generally have no problem, but I've never been able to break it down properly and have at times had to start over-- not such a big deal when it doesn't count, huge deal when it does. My buddy was showing me his rapid ridgeline setup the other day and had himself tied in metaphorical knots trying to figure out why his tensioning knot wasn't working like he wanted it to. And I thought I knew my trucker's hitch. But I still had apprehension when I was pulling on that loop, that nagging feeling that I did mess it up and it will tighten itself. With your "in pain / at rest" method I can't mess it up anymore. Thanks *again* for a great video.

OMG! You just changed my entire Hammock world as I know it!!!! Ive tried this knot so many times and I could never figure out why it only worked half the time. I can probably guess that it was being performed backwards unknowingly, which proves that it does in fact matter which way you do it! Thank you so much for clearing this up!!!!! Used your version of this on several occasions recently. Brilliant! One upgrade: go thru the loop twice (4:47) and you don't have to hold the loop and line (5:08) to tie it off at the end, it's self locking as you pull. Of course it still needs to be finished/tied-off as per your instructions. EDIT: (Josh Enyart , AKA: GB2, calls it the rolling hitch)
