A little encouragement to anyone who may see this, I desperately wanted to make prayer ropes, going against my better judgment (knowing rat tail chord would be easiest to learn with) I purchased thick yarn, wanting to use wool.. well it took my 4 days of on and off attempts and epic failures, but I just got one right!! So if you're inept like me, as great as this video is, don't expect to get it right away. Just keep trying!! God bless.

I’m so glad you were able to get it though! Komboskini is a weapon, and now that you’ve learned to make it, may your passions be scared!

Thank you very much for this video. This is by far the best komboskini knot video there is. It's very important that you explain every step verbally while showing the process with the rope.

I messed up midway but I was so close! I had the hardest time trying to take it apart (to straighten out the chord again so I can restart). No wonder the devil can’t untie these knots! This video is so clear and helpful. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for sharing this video! Can I make these with different colors or must it always be black? Thank you!!
@fr.zachariasthornbury5 ай бұрын
Other colors are possible, but the traditional color is black, to symbolize the sins we are asking forgiveness of.

I'm a little confused about what you mean by 20.5 feet total. You mentioned that each piece of material is 10.5 feet, so is the total counting the two separate pieces of material together? If I were to make a rope with a single piece of material (two strands instead of four), would that mean that I only need 10.25 ft of material, total? I would greatly appreciate any help that you could provide with this matter, father.
@fr.zachariasthornbury2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. If you're making the rope using rattail, then 20.5ft would be the total length of material needed. When making the rope, you're working with the material folded in the middle to make your two ends.

Father, thank you very much for the video and pdf. As you may already know, a knot with the same physical structure may be tied other ways. In your research, did you find discussion of why this knot & this method were chosen?

Only in the story that is told about it, that it was revealed to Saint Pachimos by an angel, as a way of helping him tie knots for his monks to count their prayers on, that the demons woulnd't be able to undo

Hello, Father. I plan on using paracord to tie my prayer rope. If the length required for the rattail is 20.5 feet, do you think I should double that and use 41 feet for the paracord?
@fr.zachariasthornbury6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I can't give a good guess on that. When I came up with my measurements I would actually measure how much string I had, make a knot, and measure how much left. After a few knots I had a pretty good idea of how much material each knot made, so I could extrapolate the total from that. I haven't done the same for paracord. I have seen paracord komboskinia though. A friend makes them like that!

Dear Father, thank you for this video. After trying rat tail, I would like to use wool. Most wool yarn is too thin. Please tell me where you get your wool and what to ask for. Thank you.
@fr.zachariasthornbury Жыл бұрын
Hello, if you double up the yarn, you can use any of the standard, worsted weight, size 4 yarn.
@dianelevy419 Жыл бұрын
@@fr.zachariasthornbury thank you but I think it would get so confused... was hoping for a thicker yarn. Do you use a double strand? I gave away my spinning wheel...otherwise I would spin my own.
@jakeeasterday1663 Жыл бұрын
@@dianelevy419 this is quite a late reply for this, but I've had good results using a drop spindle to ply yarn thicker, first by over twisting the source yarn and making a center pull ball, and then plying it in the other direction using both ends from that ball.
@dianelevy419 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! When you said you over twisted the source yarn, did you twist 2 yarns together very tightly? I think I understand the rest of the process.
@jakeeasterday1663 Жыл бұрын
@@dianelevy419 I twisted the single yarn very tightly and then it'll naturally twist together like a rope when two strands of the over-twisted yarn are combined, and washing in hot water can make them look like a single strand. The channel JillianEve has wonderful videos for things like this, though I don't have a link on hand.

@fr.zachariasthornbury9 ай бұрын
@@veeberrydoesgaming2311 paracord certainly works, it just makes the knots a lot bigger!
@veeberrydoesgaming23119 ай бұрын
@@fr.zachariasthornbury that's one thing I like about it, I have larger hands so small knots are hard for me to tell apart and I end up counting 2 or 3 knots as one.
