Looking to those nifty hood straps, good alternative. The main purpose of the stern straps is to keep the boat on the roof in case you have to stop suddenly. I have moved the canoe forward until the bow is way forward and the stern lines will have minimal extension in the event there is an opportunity for it to come forward.

A great alternative for the bow a d sterns are the factory recovery tow fish eye bolts. Most cars have it in the trunk and it screws in via a removable door on the front and rear bumpers.

Any danger of popping the hood if you put too much tension on the t-bars?

This video helped a lot, just got a canoe and I had to stop 12 times on a 1 hour trip to tighten up the straps no matter how much I tightened the straps they still kept coming undone, almost bent the cross bars on the roof of my 4Runner and still no luck, I’m glad I watched this it saved me about 40 minutes of work on the ride home

I like the innovative style of the under hood mounts. I just know that the car was never designed with them in mind. As long as you are triple sure the hood is secure and the front lines aren't too tight I guess they would be okay. There are tow hook points underneath the car. They aren't always easy to find, but the advantage in front is you don't have to worry if the hood is going to come up as you're driving down the road. I had it happen to me on the freeway, not something you want to ever happen even once.

I would recommend you learn if you car has a metal hood or not. For example my Nissan does not and would crack the hood. Just fyi guys
