Just Incredible Riah !!! The colors are just beautiful! Another beaded looking mandala that is so vibrant! And I love your technique of brushing on the black with your sponge brush over the yellow. That design turned out incredible. The back of the shirt is also very cool. You are just the best honey!

That's beautiful and another masterpiece! I've dyed shirts all yellow in a bucket and then tied them after, dyed them with black, red, pink etc...it kinda cuts to the chase and no white spots, done it with turquoise blue too. Excellent as usual Riah L&L 2U always...

Couldn’t you just do that on a yellow shirt that you got from the store, instead of taking that step of soaking it in a bucket of dye?

@@RiahsTieDye Basically I was switching over to using Proceion die and had extra fluorescent yellow and turquoise so I put the store bought (Rit Dye) in buckets with hot water, put the white shirts in soda ash first then put them in the buckets. Hung them dry then tied them and used squirt bottles to add more colors to them. They came out fantastic and non traditional. Used up all my old store bought dye using this method. I started dying in buckets as a kid and before they made cold water dye. L&L 2U R

@@biancabrooks280 Most certainly you can and I have too but who knows what type of dye the manufacture used? I also soaked the white shirts in soda ash first. Try it with a shirt already dyed from the store and preferably a lighter color, wash it and soak it in soda ash first. You will get interesting results! Good luck. L&L 2U BB

Maybe…when a shirt is tied up so tight like this one it’s really hard to get good saturation so I personally wouldn’t do HWI.

Awesome video! Quick question: that colored string you used after the sinew, is that colored kite string, or more sinew?

@@RiahsTieDye thanks for replying! Is the fishing line more similar to sinew or kite string in usage? Like does it typically help keep the colors more separated like the wax covered sinew? Just curious since I watched your kite string vs. sinew video and I don't remember fishing line mentioned

I wasn’t using fishing line back then but fishing line isn’t waxy but if you pull hard enough it will kind of wedge itself in there…it can create the smaller white lines than sinew which is nice

So for these mandala you don’t fold like a regular 8 point. I use a protractor to determine how many lines to draw. So if I go every 20 degrees there will be 8 lines. Then you fold accordion style matching up one line to the next.

Riah, have you ever dyed a zippered hoodie? I have one I’m planning to buy and then dye, but I was wondering how the zipper would interfere. Any tips or suggestions?

Yes I have…I think the only video I’ve made was quite some time ago and it was a spiral. The zipper could be an issue depending on the pattern you want to tie up but honestly the best thing to do is pick a pattern you want to try, and try it. If it doesn’t work try something else. ☺️💛
