Short (silent) clip showing how to tie the Brahmagranti, mala knot. I've been making malas and teaching mala making for almost 20 years. This video is mainly to remind students how to tie the knots, although it may help the complete novice too.
For more detailed instructions, see my 'Mala making tutorial - right handed' video below.

Hi Lynda, thanks for comments. Remember you can slow down using: Settings / speed / 0.25 or 0.5. I've made a proper instructional video (about 30mins) which I'll release in the new year.

Hello do you have video on how to make a wrist mala ???
@InnerEyeYogaProducts
@InnerEyeYogaProducts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your question. I've lots of plans for future videos and will add that to the list. I always use polyester thread for wrist malas as it's much more durable than cotton and has a little flex too. If you're wanting a tassel then the process is exactly the same as a mala. If you're making a 27 bead continuous mala (without a tassel) then DON'T tie a brahmagranti knot after the 27th bead. Untie the slip knot next to bead #1 and tie the two ends together (bead #1 & #27) and make a double or triple knot and carefully melt it into a ball, so it can't undo. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for this videos of brahmagranthi. Just one question, there are 3 knots, the brahmagranthi, visnugranthi and rudragranthi. How is the the other knots used/made?

Hari Om, Glad you liked the videos. The knot I tie has also been described to me (in India) as 2 1/2 knot. There are other techniques that make smaller knots. But, as far as I know, they're always referred to as Brahmagranti or granthi. The knots you mentioned are 'psychic knots'/blockages related to the chakras and represent stages of evolution. Hope that helps.

Most everything was going good until a surprise rain shower made me stop and close windows,,,then the next bead i tied happened to be about 7 away from where i was suppose to be,,they slipped and at 47 i had to cut. i bought wrong thread and it's been an interesting project. 14 Malas to restring,,that's a lot of OM🙏🏼

With practice you'll get better at un-tying knots too! It's easy to make mistakes in the beginning. Enjoy 🙏

I wish it was done with bigger beads or a closed up cuz even at a slow motion settting it is hard to see how to do it

WHat kind of thread is this ? any link to a qualitative brand ?
@InnerEyeYogaProducts
@InnerEyeYogaProducts 2 жыл бұрын
In this video, I'm using polyester thread which is necessary when the bead holes are small. It's much easier to learn using cotton thread. What type of cotton thread to use? 'Six strand cotton embroidery thread'. I use industrial sized cones, but it is usually sold in 8m length bundles. You’ll need: About 6-8m for the knots and about 3m for the tassel. Buy at least 2x 8m bundles. If you want a multi coloured tassel, buy 1x bundle for the knots and 3x for the tassel. It's best to buy a more expensive brand as good quality thread is more forgiving, it will slip better without breaking when making knots and ultimately it will last longer and keep it’s colour. To my knowledge ‘six strand cotton embroidery thread’ is roughly the same thickness regardless of the brand. Good brands include: DMC, Madeira, Anchor etc. The thread ‘bundles’ look like the ones on this link. www.dmc.com/us/six-strand-embroidery-floss-489-colors-available-9003292.html#null
