This video will teach you how to tie maybe the strongest fishing knot, the Uni Knot! This knot can be used any time you need a fast and strong knot, and this video will show you the tricks to tie it quickly and effectively. We will also go over one of the coolest aspects of this knot, which is once you learn it you're already halfway to knowing how to tie your leader line onto your main line (or any other two pieces of line together)! This is one of the most widely used fishing knots which is easy/fast to tie and can be used to catch anything from trout, perch, bass, pike, salmon, red snapper, tuna, trigger fish, mackerel... basically anything you catch with a hook can be caught using this knot! This knot is similar in strength and simplicity to the palomar knot, trilene knot, improved clinch knot, loop knot, albright knot, fg knot, and others! Subscribe for more knots and tips, and thanks for watching!
Quick disclaimer: This is but one of many methods to successfully tie this knot, and it happens to be the best one I have found! I hope it works equally well for you, but if it doesn't, or if you have found something else that works better, I encourage you to stick to what works for you! I would always recommend practicing the knots and testing their strength yourself to ensure you are comfortable with how they work, and to avoid flinging lures into the ocean on a failed knot (ask me how I know!). Knots take practice, so make sure you're comfortable with whatever you're tying prior to trusting it with your gear! If you have any questions about the knot, please post them below and I will do my best to answer them. I hope this is helpful, and tight lines!

What is a good knot to tie some (fitness type grips with a loop) to a 1 meter long climbing rope that is about 2/3 cm thick. So one grip is is attached on each end of the rope so i can use it like a make shift face pull attachement/row grip attachement. All help is appreciated 🙏🏻🙌🏻

My dad passed away on March 11th 2024 after a sudden cardiac arrest. I'm his only daughter and just turned 19, we used to go fishing every year on my birthday and I really miss it. There are a lot of skills of his that I didn't get to learn, tying a fishing hook is one of them. Thank you for this video, now I'll be able to keep me and my dad's fishing tradition alive hopefully 😊🙏🏽

Really? I've always used the Palomar. This one seems you have to stretch the line more to get the knot to fully seat. Figured it'd be bad on the line, and it only has one loop onto the lure. Hmm.. I may try it. It def looks faster
@AtomicOverdrive

Not sure why that would be. A correctly tied Palomar knot will exceed the breaking strength of the line your using.

I learned knots in Ranger School in 88, and I still use several of them. We "dress down" the knot to tighten it, by pulling each part out a little, alternating as you hold the knot. I think you could have less risk of straining your line or your tendons if you used your fingers to slide the wraps into place instead of pure tension. I like your knot, and the wetting is a new trick to me, so thank you.

Do not do that as it can cause friction and break your line. It is still a single line so going twice does not increase strength or create redundancy.

Great job on the video, my friend! I really enjoy surf fishing in the southern region of Australia and I focus on catching Mulloway and sharks. When it comes to my swivels, I prefer using the uni knot to tie them onto my 80lb fluorocarbon line. However, I learned a valuable lesson after losing a big fish due to my 4-wrap uni knot giving way. Wrapping 80lb fluorocarbon line over 5 turns can be a bit challenging, especially when coupled with a tendency towards laziness. As a recommendation, I would strongly suggest doing 5 wraps when tying a uni knot with line over 60lb.

Instead of pulling the main line to seat the barrel of the knot, grasp the barrel between your fingertips and slide it home under gentle pressure on the main line. This reduces damage to the line as it makes the turn through the eye of the hook.

Hello, the Fishing Fool knot, aka Modified Uni knot, has been found to be 28% stronger than the Uni knot, and only requires passing the tag end through the lure/ hook eye etc. one extra time at the beginning. Which gives you two points of contact. It's a great knot and I mean you no disrespect Sir... Just trying to help... Tight Lines!!

Additionally, when you cinch it down, do not go all the way to the eye, stop about a 1/4" from the eye, hook the hook around something stationary, grab the tag end with your fishing pliers and chinch that tight. Now you have a solid knot with some play between the eye and the line, a good technique for fishing with live bait, gives it a little more flexibility and action. When you have a fish on, it will tighten the uni-knot to the eye tight at that point. The two most important fishing knots all angles need to be able to do in their sleep, the uni-knot and the Bimini twist. Tight lines always! Capt. K

For an even stronger Uni knot, pass the line through the eyes of the hook or swivel then (before forming the loop!) wrap the tag end around the running line 5-6 times. Next form the loop and wrap the tag end again 5-6 times through the loop and over the previous winding. Moisten and snug down as usual. This variatiopn is particularly useful for braids and lighter lines. It is also preferred when attaching mono end-on to braid to for a mono tip for lures!
