Ever heard of the Yucatan Knot? Ben Secrest learned this one over in Europe. Keep building your arsenal of fishing knots!
Yucatan Knot in our opinion are much stronger than the Albright knot.
This fishing knot performs well while connecting a doubled main line to a heavy leader. It was originally developed in the sport fishing waters off Isla Mujeres and Cancun. It is stronger than the Albright and the slim beauty and is arguably the strongest knot for mono leader to braided line connections.

Did you actually test that? This is surprising to me, especially with the very weak line doubling knot shown here.

Is knoting the braid double really necessary? Or can it just be doubled over to tie then trim?

This knot is way under rated, more wraps, around 15 or so and using gloves and pulling up really tight turns this knot into one of the strongest around.

I saw this knot tested on a strength machine . it is rated as one of the strongest there is! It was tested over and over. It was rated stronger than the Bimini twist. Much faster and easier to tie. A spider hitch was the loop.

I like this knot however as you pull the lines to tighten the knot the mono line appears to go under stress where the braid creates friction causing some damage even after moistening the line. I tied 50lb spider wire braid to 30lb mono Berkley line and the mono where the damage was occurring broke time and time again at 25 lbs.

I am asked about all different types of knots, but by trying a lot of them I have picked my go to knots. The FG knot works really well but takes some time to learn, the GT and Pena knot are very similar but both work very good up to 60lb flouro or a smaller diameter 80 lb. The uniknot has worked for ages all over the world. If you have trouble with breakage with the yacatan knot try the FG or Pena knot. I don't have problems with either one.

I like the look of the knot, but for me the braid always breaks at a fairly light weight right before the knot, i've also tried it with a bunch of different leaders and braids

@@AccurateFishingReels Yep, I've lubricated the knot and all that, I have tested it on light braid only so farm but I got some new braid though and I will test it on that some time soon. I'll update you on the results

@@sashahess3141 I've seen a test done on 20 lb braid, and it broke at just over 18 lb. That's pretty good.

So in using a Yucatan as a wind on leader knot in replacing the leader one would have to re tie the double line in the braid correct?

Yep. Bimini or good surgeon knot

I choose the Yucatan knot over the FG because it's easy, fast, strong and battle test on the Gulf and Atlantic side of Florida.

Don't do a knot in the braid. I did for ease of show but just use double lines one main line and one tag line and it works perfect.

I have never heard of the double grinner. The best knots are the proven ones by use that you have confidence tying. I will look for the double grinner. Thanks.

You are missing something. Look it up on line and there might be a clearer way to see whats going on detail wise.

I spent 2 hours trying to tie this knot. The only thing that helped was lubing the mono with chap stick. I think if your mono is not very limp this knot will not work. It looks fantastic when it works.

Yucatan knot is not a good knot.Take any fishing line ,measure the power fishing line.The same fishing line embroider yucatan knot,if the fishing line for example was torn at, say 11 kg, now it will shoot at 6 kg.Double uni knot is much better better.

Sorry if I offended anyone, mono to mono or multifilament to mono is weak yucatan knot for large fish, I use it too because it's fast but it happens it happens to fail at the place where it is connected. GT knot or Double Uni Knot is much better. That's my opinion. Sorry if I offended you.Bye!

All good. People ask us for knots we show them. I use FG, Pena, and Double uni. FG goes through the guides best.
