all the other schluter profiles have a corner attachment and I couldn't find one for the jolly profile. I am SO happy to know there isn't one and your video of how to install this profile. I love the simple thin look of this profile. THANK YOU! I was holding up my project just trying to find the corner connectors....now I can tile!!

I'm going to share an alternate installation. If your back is any type of mosaic type tile, you definitely want to do the back first. Then when you install the top, bottom and sides, it will hide any slightly jagged cuts.

are the niches fireproof (the candle in the niche)? no need to add movement joint spacing in niches?

Hello! Awesome job! What is the thickness of the tile that you used for the bottom of the niche? I’m trying to figure out if I need to set my niche a little bit lower than yours since my tile is close to 3/8 inch. I am using the jolly trim as well and will set it the same way as the second example. Thank you

Hi there! This tile is 9mm-thick, so very very close to 3/8 inch.

Should the grout line between the profile and tile be the same as the overall grout line size? If so, can we put in spacers there?

Hi Ceeloc, the grout line with our profiles should be 1/16" to 1/8". It's fine to use spacers.

how do you line up the niche with the tile so perfectly while making a solid niche? I typically all 2x4's into the wall so I can screw the nice and the kerdi board into the 2x4's but you do this when the wall is open. How would I do this if I already have the board up?

Hi there! You will need to center the edges of the niche (flipped around) on the 16" studs (where your screws are), so the niche can share the stud with the KERDI-BOARD. Find the height you need to match up with the projected tile height, trace around the level niche with the edges on the center of the studs, and then cut the board out so you can install the niche flush to the remaining KERDI-BOARD. You only need to fasten to the studs on the sides. It is not necessary to install framing above or below the niche to fasten to. So with your guys install using the Kerdi Waterproofing membrane you go over drywall rather that using cement board?

Hi Ali, Here are the instructions from our Handbook: Note: When using the prefabricated shelf, determine the desired height of the shelf and mark with a level line. Set tile up to that line on the back and sides of the niche. Butter the sides and back of the shelf with Schluter SET®, ALL-SET®, FAST-SET®, or unmodified thin-set mortar and solidly embed it in the niche, resting on the previously installed tile. The shelf may be raised at the back to create a slope, or the tile may be set on a slope, to prevent water from pooling in the finished application. Hi, I have a schluter shower TT pan that I want to install. Can I use modified thinset to affix it to the plywood substrate? And if so do I then use unmodified thinset for laying tiles and laying the kerdi band? Part of my questions directly relates to the point when you embed the drain. I was made to understand that everything above the pan must use unmodified thinset. If so, how do i deal with the excess modified thinset that pushes out when I'm embedding the drain? Does this adversely impact my installation? I would really appreciate if someone could get me in the right direction. Side note I'll be using either customs or a Mapie brand thinset.

Hi there! Schluter ALL-SET and FAST-SET modified thinset mortars are designed to use both under and over KERDI products. If using another brand, please use an unmodified thinset mortar. Thank you very much I'll have a look at it. So to bond the schluter tray to plywood if I'm understanding you correctly I will use unmodified thinset if I use a different brand thinset?

4:25 this is the only acceptable method for a DIY niche. All the other methods have cut long pieces while thinset is drying and tile is not down.

Hi Brandon, sorry, I really don't know. We have a lot of tile hanging around and pull them out for these video shoots... what you might do, is take a picture to your local tile dealer to show them, they might know or be able to recommend something similar. Wish we could help more.

No mention of how to frame studs around the long niche before the board goes up. It is critical especially if the wall is load bearing.

Yes, framing is critical. The long niche is a custom niche. In this video, we refer to our specific Schluter KERDI-BOARD custom niche video for all the details on how to install a custom niche. In that video, we mention that the framing was already installed in the wall cavity to properly support the niche. It's always best to refer to local building codes for framing details.

Schluter products are overrated and overpriced. Also followed mixture procedure of their All set cement and found out that the wall membrane did not adhere to the mold resistant drywall consistently. I couldn't take a chance expecting this membrane to support wall tiles. Schluter warranty is only on paper. They squirm out of honoring their warranty by finding excuses. All contractors with years of experience I spoke to stay away from Schluter products.
