Best video I have seen yet telling you how to tile a window. Liked the tip about making the tiles stick out 2-3 mm to square up walls. I have taken note of that. You are first to talk about doing that. So a big thank you. Excellent video. Will try it out tomorrow. Thanks very much to you and your mate for posting it.

You make it look so easy! - I tackled my first bathroom tiling today - got half way through in day as it's a lot harder than it looks! 😂 I'm spot-on accurate thanks to your tips. Cheers mate! 👍

Thank you Rob, you made me feel brave enough to tackle a small but complicated splashback into window reveal. It's not perfect, but it's done, which it wouldn't have been without your help and wonderful tips!

Great tutorial! I’ve just done a kitchen window with white subway (bevelled) tiles and black metal trim. I made the trim flush with the cut edges and when I grouped it with black brought it looked a mess. I wish I had watched your tutorial first and set the trim 1mm proud of the cut edge. Urgggh! I think I need to remove all the edge tiles and cut new ones and set them on thinner adhesive so that the trim is 1mm proud of the cut edge. Any advice would be welcomed…

Hi great video, very useful! I do have a question though... its about the part before this and above the window. not so bad in your instance but I'm about to tile above my window and there is nothing to stop the tile slipping... do you have any suggestions for this? I've seen people use battens, specialized tools and others saying it shouldn't need anything. i have some 600x300 tiles and don't fancy relying on gravity taking a day off when i try.... cheers

Great video....One question though...Why wouldn't you have angled the lower window casing downward toward the shower to allow moisture, condensation or water splashing to seep back into the shower area? thank you,

Fantastic Job and well explained, thank you. I'm just wondering about leaving a grout gap where the tile trim meets at a 45 degree angle. My thinking is than metal on metal isn't a good water seal. I'm doing a window in a shower enclosure so will get wet every time the shower is used. What are your thoughts?

Cracker of a video, top notch 👌. Just wondering when you are grouting do you grout first or seal the edges. Cheers

How come you didn’t centre the grout line to the centre of the window, so the tiles have even cuts either side of window? I am no tiler, just that was told to.

A good question. Doesn’t always work on every job. You can’t just blindly slam the tile in the centre of the window if it doesn’t work out elsewhere. On this occasion you’ll notice that I have a full tile on the left hand side of the wall, If I pulled the courses over to make the tile centre of the window there would be an awful cut of about 1”1/2 - 2” on the left hand side corner. Like I said sometimes you have to make a compromise and on this occasion you have to sacrifice the centralisation of the window as slither cuts in corners is a big no no! Sometimes the size of the window doesn’t suit the size of the tile for centralised setting out, it’s a good rule of thumb but I would advise people to take time to measure out properly as it’s not always possible. Thanks.

One thing I would of liked is the tiles to be central in the window So tiles sit central if the window is 500mm wide the centre joint or tile is in middle 😁

Doesn't appear possible with the width of those tiles.

Thank you for a very good informative video. Do you let the first layer of adhesive, that you used to fill out the gap, go off before beginning the side tiles? I noticed you used levelling wedges to align the bottom side tile and if the 2-3mm of adhesive is still wet, they wouldn't have anything to push against.

Hi Rob, great video, really informative, i was waiting for a video like this one, i will be more confident when i do my own now. Do you use a grinder or wet saw to cut the L shapes, around the window, they look really good, smooth and straight. Also do you use a levelling system or just a spirit level, the wall tiles look really flat with no lippage. maybe in another video you can show us how to cut around radiator pipes, cut around a WC, or around a curve, i.e shower tray. Great work mate keep em coming, Kevin ,

Thanks so much Kevin. We use a grinder for the angled cuts (with a mixed - porcelain and ceramic blade) and scribed with our our tile cutter before hand for a clean edge. I’m going to put up videos on this and cutting holes in tiles and different methods for this in our ‘Tiling tutorials’ playlist and many more videos covering the techniques you’ve mentioned. Hope it all goes well buddy! Rob 🙏🏻

Can layout tiles around a window in this way if using glazed tiles. I'm thinking that it can be difficult to get a good edge where the tiles have been cut, and therefore perhaps a different sort of trim should be used?

Hi, awesome video, thank you for taking to make it. I am about to finish my bathroom reveals, I have ceramic tiles, they have been cut square and level but are slightly gnarly in places. Should I try to smooth them or will the grout hide it if I leave the trim a mil or two proud?
@lesterbathrooms3948
@lesterbathrooms3948 Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, I imagine that you mean the tiles on the outside of the window? Yes, I would bring the trim forward by the smallest margin so it is proud of the cut edge, but only just, and when grouted it will blend. Hope it goes well mate 👍🏻

Can you describe what you did with the existing window sill? I'm guessing the window was installed on top of it so you left it in place and tiled on top of it but just wanted to confirm. Thanks!

Hi Joe, yes, the bullnose was chopped off the existing window sill and plasterboard screwed on top to give the correct substrate. If you’re tight for height you could use 6mm hardibacker board. Thanks.

Be sure to know exact where to stop your tile for the window sill, your thinset under the tile will raise the tile up a tad and you don’t want to big of a grout joint
