How to track forms with Element Visibility Trigger in Google Tag Manager

In this video, you’ll learn how to track successful form submissions with Element Visibility trigger in Google Tag Manager and send those events to Google Analytics.
If you are dealing with the form that cannot be tracked with the built-in form-submission trigger, AJAX listener, and does not have a "Thank you" page, try using the method explained in this video.
If the form displays a success message after the submission, you could try using the Element Visibility trigger.
Sometimes it might get a little complicated to apply this method (if you are not familiar with CSS selectors) but the more you learn/practice, the easier it will become over time.
In this video, I will show you a step-by-step process on how to track form submissions when the form success message appears. This can be done with the Element Visibility trigger in GTM.

Hello Thank you for your help. I really have a problem with Elegantthemes form. can i create a trigger as follows: div.et_pb_contact hidden=true. I want to test the value of hidden . I tested the visibility element method but when you start with a false positive (example you forgot to enter a mandatory field) it works, there is no trigger, but if you correct and send, there is still no trigger. But if you start with a true positive it works well.

Hi Julius, thanks so much for this. Question for you: what if the class we're tracking is shown on successful form submissions but also on unsuccessful ones? I implemented the element visibility trigger and tag shown by you, but it's still counting both successful and unsuccessful form submissions. Ideally I would need a way to differentiate between the two.

Other possible approaches are: 1. You ask a developer to add some other unique class to the success message that will allow you differentiate 2. You ask a developer to push the form submission data to the data layer (and not use element visibility trigger at all)

I feel like your tutorial is the most useful and complete we have available on the internet, for sure I would buy the course and go deep on Tag Manager, but unfortunately, after the pandemic, my country is passing through a global economic crisis and the dollar is too expensive to me. So I can't afford it :/

I successfully created the tag triggering upon element visibility, but I can't get Google Ads to register it as a conversion. I already created a new conversion in Google Ads and used the resulting conversion ID number to create a new event tag in GTM that fires upon the element visibility trigger and I also put a conversion linker tag. But the conversion event still says "unverified" in Google Ads. I know the element visibility trigger and the event tag are working.... It's the link to Google Ads that isn't. What could be wrong?

I am working in Squarespace and the Element Visibility is not showing up - Do you have a fix for this? Either element is in the (which makes it probably impossible to track) or CSS selector is incorrect and you spend more time on that to learn the fundamentals

I'm having a similar issue. I have a SquareSpace form that pops up in a modal. I can track form submissions using the Form Submission trigger and a Click Text to qualify which pages it fires upon. However, I am also trying to track Views of the form. I have tried the Element Visibility, but nothing shows in modal.

Why does mine wont work. I have followed every step, and when in debug or oreview mode, the element visibility fires successfully. But when i check in analytics realtime events, the event is not recorded?? Pls advise.

@@AnalyticsMania the website has monster insights plugin but i have deactivated it before testing the forms. When in debug mode the tags successfully fires. But it is not recorded in google analytics. I wonder if the class i have put on element visibility is incorrect. The class i use is .wpcf7-response-output. any answers why it is not recorded in the GA?

@@cloggednose323 Your setup requires deeper digging. But I'll repeat my previous question again. Have you tried the solution dedicated to contact form 7 tracking that I shared in the previous comment? it does not require css selectors knowledge.

Quick Info: If the class has spaces in the code, replace them with a dot. example: Class= "form submit success" you need to change it to .form.submit.success
