I'm watching this out of curiosity, because my sharpei has the exact opposite problem. He's too nice to everybody. He jumps and licks and gets so excited until it becomes annoying 😅 Even on walks. Once he just randomly wondered off into someone's garage and watched them work on their car.

I'm a professional breeder and trainer . The thing about Shar pei is that you have to have time with them to correct it over and over until they learn and understand it

Exactly right. I own a 3yr old Shar pei & patience is definitely a virtue in regards to their training in all aspects. ( They’d give an Aspirin a headache at times ) Plus as you rightly say keep at it , don’t get angry just show the dog who’s the boss in the proper manner & in time you’ll earn their respect as their Master which brings a more obedient & imho a more happy dog 🐕

100% true! I have a Shar Pei and she is hands down the hardest dog I've ever tried to train. Other breeds I've owned (Golden Retriever, Sheltie, Springer Spaniel) were all fast learning easily trained dogs. Even if my methods weren't perfect they seemed to understand what I wanted and they were eager to please. With my Shar-pei I constantly feel like a failure, lol. It takes sooo much time and consistency just to make a little progress. She is stubborn and definitely not eager to please. She cannot be distracted by treats when something else has her attention. I love her madly but she is easily the most difficult dog I've ever had.

My Shar Pei loves dogs and people both, so not an issue there, thank goodness. There have been only a handful of dogs he really hasn't liked and that was because those dogs were extremely reactive on leash. As a smaller Pei, he doesn't love dogs who are overwhelmingly rambunctious either lol but he tolerates them for the most part.

My first sharpei was the exact what you saying anxiety! and ended up a liability.. and now I got my new puppy I'm definitely doing differently this time more! than anything as I want a perfect dog and Relationship with me and my family x ps I have your book too x👍

Shar Pei are the most amazing dogs - but not for novice owners!! So many trainers mess them up as they have no idea how to read or handle a Pei! They are not your average dog, they are a primitive breed and each dog is very different!

I have a mix Shar-pei, she's very social, she fit very well with my other dog. I trained her and I have good results.

Thought we were getting a golden, got a dna test done, turns out she's a shar pei Irish setter mix, so she's twice the anxiety. Training at the vet has helped but at home it feels like she explodes when she sees *anything*. Thankfully for exercise it's a straight shot from one end of the house so there's definitely room for indoor exercise until I'm more comfortable taking her on walks any other time besides the wee hours of the morning..

I'm definitely interested to do this ,Ours is a Shar pei X staffy .She used to love other dogs and people until she got to 1 year old.She pulls at other dogs and humans now.She gets 30 minutes plus a day and play at home.She is not interested in treats while on a walk atall.

I have a Shar pei German Shepherd mix. She was well socialized and loved every dog she saw until she reached the age of 2yrs. Then she suddenly started leash aggressive which shocked me. She is also not treat motivated. I make sure she gets at least 2hours a day of exercise. Usually an hour of off leash running and playing and then two 30 minute leash walks, sometimes more so it's not a lack of exercise. She is good loyal well behaved dog indoors, couldn't ask for a better dog, but she gets a mind of her own outside and willfully chooses to ignore commands.

Hello Caine lovers ! I have a question ? Maybe your team may reply 😊 We have saved an sharpei... See is absolutely beautiful ❤ She was tormented, neglected,beaten... She has entropion which was left unattended ! She only ever went to the Vets Once whole life 😢 she is getting the love and attention she needs how ever i have a question please ? If i say here name come back its thought about but im worried some what,,maybe i shouldn't be, yet if i say wheres her name she will immediately respond and attempt to get attention immediately ? Now i understand this may sound silly yet, is this part truma related ?

I’ve got 4 pei’s 2 girls 2 boys not for breeding just to love, my 1 year old boy is a big- boy and is starting to show aggression, so tomorrow is day one of training, misses just left me after 14 years we had these together 2 girls 2 boys one of the boys is just turned 1 and is a big boy and is trying to dominate everything as my heads not been in right place but could you please give me first step guidance on what I should do?

Me and my wife got a shar pei cross bull dog at 4 year old she’d had 4 homes we’ve had her 8 years and she’s never got outta the fixation with other dogs she tolerates a few dogs but the majority she can’t be off lead we’ve been to behaviourists but she’s not improved tbh. When she’s home tho she’s very nervous and not very confident in herself.

I have a rescue shar pei. She's only reactive on leash. Shows 0 interest in toys or food even high value treats. I have her walking a good loose leash until dogs start barking then she wants to run away taking me with her. Any tips to help?

That's my Shar pei to a tee. She's actually quite friendly and sociable with other dogs when she is free to run and play. The moment she is leashed she is whole new and scary dog. When something grabs her attention she cannot be distracted with treats. I'll offer her real chicken and she will literally just let it fall to the ground while she fixates on another dog. I'm working with a trainer now and he is teaching me to prevent the fixation before it starts. Sometimes I'm successful and sometimes not. It's an uphill battle for sure.

I need help with my shat pei I have tried everything. He literally pulls like crazy with even lizards. I can't take him anywhere, but still force myself to take him everywhere to attempt to socialize him.

I have three shar peis who randomly suffer skins issues. This is really actually to do with where I live: 5 blocks from the beach, it is really humid. But, I keep the condition under control with high-quality food: Pro Plan Sensitive Skin, or Purina Excellent. Whenever they do have a reaction, I use medicated shampoo that has 20% Chlorhexidine once a week for four weeks. Then I use Veterinary Formula Solutions Soothing and Deodorizing Oatmeal Shampoo for Dogs once a week for four weeks. And it works. Also, make sure that the ears remain clean, as they can become infected really fast and your dog will destroy its ears by scratching them. I hope that it helps. I've had to learn the trial and error way.

@@RandomPsychic Thats true. My Shar Pei always challenges me. Last nite he was in a bad mood because I wouldn't give him my Ovaltine! I put him in his wire kennel for a "time out" and he had a full blown temper tantrum. I know it seems funny but its really not. He can get really nasty. Vet recommended a wire cage as a time out solution after he actually( lightly) bit me a couple of times for not getting his way.
