How can you improve your marksmanship at home? In this short instructional video from Concealed Carry Magazine, former law enforcement officer and competitive shooter Chip Eberhart outlines the fundamentals of marksmanship while performing dry-fire handgun drills at home.
00:00 How can you practice marksmanship if you don’t have access to a gun range?
00:38 Introduction by Chip Eberhart.
00:54 What are some different methods of dry-fire practice you can perform in your own home?
01:00 What is a SIRT pistol and how does it help you train without ammo?
01:20 Are SIRT pistols available in different sizes and styles?
01:36 What are the four basic rules of firearm safety, and why should you treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
01:57 Rule two: Keep your finger off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard unless you are on-target and ready to fire.
02:16 The third universal rule of gun safety is to never point a firearm at anything you do not wish to destroy.
02:44 The final general rule of gun safety is to be aware of your target, your target’s environment and what lies beyond your target.
02:58 What is the proper way to hold a pistol?
03:34 Is it possible to grip a gun too tightly?
04:21 Is stance important in marksmanship as it applies to self-defense?
04:43 After grip, trigger control is the next most important aspect in accurate shooting.
05:25 Firearms instructor Chip Eberhart gives advice on practicing good trigger control.
06:14 How can a plain white wall help with dry-fire practice when you can’t get to a gun range?
06:47 How your finger contacts the trigger can play a large role in firearm accuracy.

I used a Crossman Mk1 - 40 yrs ago, when I was training National Course handgun. My target pistol was a Ruger Mk1 bullbarrel. I used wax bullets on magnum primers - to train with a Ruger Super Blackhawk. We never had much for electronics back in the day. I bought a Winchester - 1911 BB gun to train for using my real 1911. In all cases - I built a steel bullet trap decades ago. Large enough to place a target on it. It might be a range standard - or one of Ken Hackathorn's targets - or a shrunk target to give me distance. The air guns - were the only loaded ones, but I was practising in an area where even a full 44 magnum would not escape my walls. Dry fire is well worth the time and effort. Thank you SIR!

I have two Itargets so I can do multiple attackers, laying on the floor, standing, kneeing, on side, on back, 5 shot mag reload return to dryfire some times I use two gun at once it been hard learn to do this with auto I was a trick shot with revolvers for years . My old body is not so fast on the draw but I try. I got a robot camera to clear rooms I am not leaving mine I am adding a dryfire shotgun to my training soon.

Dry firing is awesome. I've tried the laser training, but I think I don't focus on the sight's as much as the wall. That's why I dry fire first and then maybe some laser training. It's always good to hear about firearm safety, even after 44 year's. I recently got the best training from a guy named Alec Baldwin. More came out today and it doesn't look good for our favorite anti gunner.

At 6:49 in the video you mentioned that too much or two little finger on the trigger can cause movement of the front sight to the left or right. I'm fairly sure I know the answer to this question but I want to make sure, doesn't that depend on which hand you're firing with? Handedness of firing was not mentioned in the video.

9/02/2023 (7:10pm) I just got home from shopping with my wife, and I almost became a stastistic after stopping a man from braking into my truck at a Chinese restaurant. I'm 72 and Vietnam veteran and I still have my self defense capacity. I broke his arm and called for an ambulance then gave him my sons number if the cops were called. Then I called him to let him know what happened,he lives in a different city 140 miles away. I'm sure my insurance will cover the Dr bills, but I don't think he will call the police. I have 2 witnesses and their name and numbers. I think it's about time I got USCCA on my side. I'm not a spring chicken anymore and I will start carrying along with my wife. Thanks for your help

My instructor is so focused on my stance, my stance, my stance- with a 9 lb shotgun. I am frustrated and over it already. Having a 100% perfect stance, for a "real life" home defense situation (at night) is very unrealistic. Accuracy and mental alertness is much more critical in real life.
