Nick, Awesome video. Love how you are spreading the word on hybrid athletes. Growing up a college soccer player/ professional. My entire life I have always been a hybrid athlete. Something no one ever understood. Getting up before anyone is awake and getting a run in and then hitting some type of workout later in the day. I’ve always been a believer in full body workouts. Never the type to just hit one body part. It’s always helped with my athletic performances as well as work on the ranch and job, and my everyday health. Continue the good fight! This type of working out is what people truly need for overall health. God bless you and your family. ✊🏽 HYBRID

Stumbling upon your channel a few days after deciding to get back on the fitness bandwagon has been a godsend. A few years ago I was lifting and jogging despite conventional wisdom, loved both and was in the best shape of my life, unfortunately life (and knee pain) happened. While considering a return to fitness I thought I would have to pick only one activity; I'm excited at the prospect of learning how to do both safely and for the long term.

Like many others have said, this comes at such great timing. Was training for a marathon beginning of the year and have been getting into weight lifting recently. Your physique is inspiring and motivating! That’s what I’d like to achieve, and I believe it’s doable! Love this brotha. I've been lifting for years but the end of last year wanted to up my game and started going hybrid. Running several times a week, my weekly long runs are now between 10-13 miles and still lifting 3-4 times a week on top of playing basketball for fun. It can be a lot to manage but I've never felt better and it's all worth it. Looking forward to more hybrid content!

Excited for this series! Have always lifted weights consistently and did some cardio but really trying to dial in the details and optimize. Sometimes I worry about having a good leg day lifting session and then running on sore legs the days after and gonna get injured bc it then puts even more stress on my legs/joints etc before they can recover

Having certain strength goals in the gym, that thought is going through my mind as well on a regular basis. However, going out for an easy run in zone 1-2 is one thing, I usually do that. Going for a max effort interval session or something that is pushing you past your anaerobic threshold, is not something I would do - in respect to recovery demand, which then is already high. Excited about this series, yes! 🙂

Not an expert here, just sometimes have similar issues. Make sure you have proper rest, don't overtrain and gradually increase volume, have a good night sleep. These things are essential. Drink plenty of water and eat (at least) before your harder efforts. I love fasted runs in the morning, but before longer runs or hill/tempo sessions I try to get something (like banana) into my stomach. Also, I experimented with using gels during the workout or drinking pre-workout supplements. It def helped me to maximize my potential during the workout. Testing gels in your workouts is also a good idea since you will need them during your HM or full marathon race.

I'm in a similar situation. I try to run 4 miles 4-5 times a week, and want to ad in some strength training. The problem I run into is that I work about 63-65 hours a week and have to run at the end of the work days. I eat very healthy for work, throughout the day, but don't know if I am overdoing the calories or not enough. I think it is important to eliminate as much sugar as possible though. I have noticed weight loss since doing that myself.Nick seems to eat oatmeal alot and that seems like great healthy food if you can flavor it to enjoy it more. It fills you while giving you good energy. Good luck!

I'm not a nutritionist but if you're lifting and running I would suggest getting in as many grams of protein per day as pounds you weigh. 190lbs = 190 grams of protein per day across 4-5 meals. Similar amount of carbs and not too much fat - but healthy fats are still essential especially for appetite. Plenty of apps to help track your macros so I'd suggest that even for a month to gauge where you're at and weigh yourself weekly - if you're packing on the lbs eat less carbs or fat, if you're losing weight and feel like crap slowly increase your macros.

My current routine that's been working for me: Wake up 6/7am Run every day, roughly 25 miles a week now but started at 7 (a minimum of 1 mile a day) 6 gym days a week Push, Pull, Abs, Legs overlapping each week with a floating rest day. ~45m-1hr each workout 300-500 calories intra workout snacks (during both run and gym) 3250 calories a day from 3 meals and a shake. Roughly 40% carbs, 30% fats, 30% protein Sounds like a lot, but it isn't. Just have to learn to love it. Consistency is the goal.minutes

Bro, this is perfect. I'm in a very similar place in life as you, minus the apparent financial stability... I am also married with a daughter that is about to turn one here in a few weeks, and I am just now getting into hybrid fitness. Super excited for this series! Are there any tips that you have for keeping my nutrition in the right place while on a budget?

Awesome video Nick! I have a question to ask to include in a future episode. What are the benefits of evening strength training?

I love how good Nick is at teaching us young men such a CRUCIAL LESSON: That duality is good. This guy shatters our priori beliefs that you can only be on one end of a continuum. He shows us constantly that it can be done. Keep moving, brothers.

I'm 54 bro and when I started out lifting, most folks did more than one thing. They lifted and ran or cycled played soccer or did a martial art, that was the norm. Then it started down the road of picking just one thing and going all in. It worked for some but the guys I know who did more than one thing got much more out of it and stayed in the game longer. If you wanna be a pro, I get it. But for everyone else, it's muscle and fitness. It says it all

I’ve been lifting weights pretty aggressively for nearly four years. No cardio during any of that until about 2-3 months ago. When I started adding running onto it (about 20 miles/week), I had hit a bit of a plateau with putting on muscle mass. Since I started running though, I’ve actually added on a decent amount of lean mass, and also dropped some additional body fat. My strength in the gym also shot past the plateau, even in upper body. I didn’t expect those changes and don’t know what to attribute them to other than incorporating running.

I'm just gonna be honest here - I began my hybrid routine one year ago because I had really bad self-esteem about my self image. Flash forward to now and life has totally changed for me, I would highly recommend it. The only thing I don't like about it is how I'm not as efficient as Nick, and I actually do feel that I spend more time overall. Regardless, I know that this time spent will buy me a crap ton of extra life time later on by bolstering muscle mass and cardio strength. Oh yeah and leg days become extremely important. Bodyweight calisthenics are also a great alternative for weights (pull), and aside from aesthetics I find push exercises to be mainly accessory for me.

Need a “Couch to Hybrid Athlete” program for those of us w/ zero lifting and zero running experience. When you talk about training 6 days a week, it’s impossible to fathom. I’m 52 and have been an avid surfer most of my life. It took me a solid year of walking on the beach before I could even finish 1/2 mile run w/o joints hurting and out of breath. Into CrossFit now for 2 months and in constant pain from the lifts. Scaling workouts down to your own personal age and level is critical to success. Thanks.

Thanks for the vid man. I’m in the Marine Corps, and inherently do hybrid training. I want to maximize it. Can you break down a split for running/lifting weights as well as a proper nutrition? Thanks again

Question for the next video. I tried hybrid training and it went ok for a while but I would keep showing up and having bad runs or bikes because I was sore from strength training. How do you combat this issue?

This is the best training program I've ever tried. It is amazing for almost any sport and it does not get boring like every other program I've tried. I would like to come in contact with you for some advice. Is it possible?

Most interested in structure. How do you run day after deadlifts say when your posterior chain has been taxed? What dosages and splits are you doing of weights/ running etc
