I work with guide dog pups in training. Impulse has to be spot on with them. A visually impaired person with a guide dog cannot see what the dog sees. Great video.

Hey man I've been watching your content and hammering it out training! I've never had such complete control of dogs in my life. We recently lost our Bucca boy, it was soul crushing. We adopted a little rat terrier Louie and are also now fostering a gentle giant American Pitbull. I am so proud of these boys. The training gets me out of bed in the morning and is all i can think about while I'm at work. Really appreciate your training style and content! Thank you🤘😎

Does this also work for a dog that doesn't know the sit and stay command?

Joel, what is the appropriate age to begin training impulse control in this way?

What's the thinking on the sit/stay. If I ask my dogs to sit I would expect them to do that until given another command etc why the need for stay? Just wondering out of interest in case there's a better way. Thanks.

Is it bad i dont get up to interrupt my dogs unwanted behavior?? I throw my wallet or keys and try to hit my dog ( im a terrible shot so i dont ever hit my target unless im mad) then i make my dog get my keys wallet or whatever i threw and bring it to me . I can't usually evan touch my keys or wallet before my dog looks at me

Erm yh the foot in front of the dog,my 3month walks around the foot used to step in thier path. Also what do you do when you dog doesn't leave it on command? That wasn't covered.

My dog is a very picky dog. She loves certain treats but no matter what dry food I buy her she never loves it. I have stuck with blue Buffalo. So when I feed her she waits to eat. Are some dogs just finicky eaters? Female pit 3 years old

Challenge: show the same dog after your training. Have them stay with one ask in a dog park, with children, dogs, adults, balls, etc. 5 min. I will post a vid showing mine.

I am sorry but when you told the dog leave it the first time she was already conditioned to back off. It waa not your stepping into the dog. She backed off when you said leave it. It would have been nice to see what to do with a dog that did not already have this behavior. My Lab is trained tis way. I have been a bad owner and put his food down and he is sitting and I walk off and have forgot to say CHOW DOWN and I'll hir him whimpering. Now I have to train a puppy who is more selfwilled so I wanted to see how to do leave it. As my Lab was so easy to train he trained himself it seemed.

Great, but impulse control shouldn't depend on your intimidating presence e.g. stepping into their space. Training should include a choice that reinforces dogs for making the correct choice. For example, My dog accidentally opened my front door while I was away for a short time. When I returned she was lying in front of the door waiting because she had been trained never to cross that threshold with or without my presence except on cue. Also I have had lots of whoopsie spills of dog food, treats, or more toxic substances. My dogs automatically lie down until the mess is cleaned. She is a pound rescue not an elite hand raised dog.
