From the “account” page of your Google settings, you can transfer an entire account’s drive and Gmail to another. This might depend on organization settings and on your personal needs, but works well!

I absolutely love this video. I was in this situation two years ago when I switched districts. You can also make a Shared Drive and drag the files in there to another Drive to avoid making copies. Thank you for sharing!

This is so helpful. I followed your instructions but I get a message that says ownership cannot be transferred. Ownership can only be transferred to another user in the same organization as the current owner. Can you explain and tell me how I get around this. Thanks

This is incredibly helpful and helped put my mind at ease. One anxiety I have remaining is that my lesson plans include many hyperlinks to other materials on Drive, that once that are copied into a new drive will no longer activate (I am assuming my account will be deactivated if I leave my place of employment). Another thought I had is that my personal/free Google account does not have the storage required and I will need to upgrade it!

If I followed you correctly, the new files are ones with "Copy of". So, do they need to be renamed to remove the "copy of"? Then the original files that were transferred would be deleted - Yes?

I tried this, but when I share the folder to my new email address and later go back in to the old address and right click to make the new address the owner, I receive the error message: "Sorry, cannot transfer ownership to (new email addy). Ownership can only be transferred to another user in the same organization as the current owner." Further more... there is no option to do it your second way advised here, as when I right cick on the folder to be shared.... there is no option for "Make a copy". I have "Share, Get link, Show the location, add short cut to drive, move to, add to starred, rename, change color, " however no option to make a copy. Any guidance much appreciated. TIA

Great video! I actually did this last summer and your video would have been perfect. I have many files set to Google formatting (sheets etc) and didn't want to see that messed up by just downloading. I wasn't changing districts. I just wanted more control over my work. Once completed, I shared the main folder back to my school account.

I know this video is 2 years old but this is a lifesaver! Just to be clear, will the folders also still be on the original Google Drive? I'm trying to transfer a copy to share with iCloud. Once my current folders from Drive are on iCloud, is there a way to turn on iCloud to sync things back to Google Drive if need be? Thanks for your help!

Hi, you can copy the complete folder if you have Google Drive of both accounts sync to your computer! That's what I personally did and it worked 😉

so i have to make copy of files in current drive and then delete the main files, i couldn't understand wht you said? my issue is my one drive is full and i wnt to transfer some files to nother account and delete around 5 gb data from current drive so that the drive gets freed up...

Thank you so much! I got a mail that my old google account for my old school would be deleted in a couple of days. I got years of projects and pictures there that I ofcourse want to save. I shared the document and then downloaded the files as Zip files. I feel like the shared files would be deleted along with the google account, hopefully im safe downloading them. Thanks.

If you're having difficulites and the drive you're trying to transfer weighs something like 60 TB, and inside of it there's file that have been uploaded by other people, you won't be able to transfer ownership, the only solution is to use solutions like CloudHQ to make the copy for you, it cost quite a bit, but I haven't found other solutions that work better.

If you have the Google Drive app installed on your computer, you can copy a folder in Google Drive the same way you'd copy any other folder of files. Right-click on the folder, click Copy, then go wherever you want to copy the folder, right-click again, and click Paste. And that's how to duplicate a folder in Google Drive.

any suggestion on quickly renaming all the files that now have "copy of" in front of the file names?

How do I copy a folder to my hard drive without it being a zipped folder? When it is zipped folder after clicking the first pic I have to X out and click the next pic instead of having arrows to the left and right to advance or back up through the pics. Thx

Why google makes it so hard? In my case, the video wasn`t helpfull as I have many folders and subfolders and it would be insane to go folder by folder and copy each folder files.

The best way is to download the folders or files to your local disk, unzip them, then upload them. It will save you a lot of time.

I was so excited when I saw this title thinking you knew something I didn't (I am pretty Google savvy). And it does not transfer this easy. I have all these shared docs or docs attached to Google Classroom etc, and I have TONS of files from teaching and this is a nightmare. I do not have time to make all those copies and it gives me a headache going back and forth to match up folders etc. Of course both schools I've tried to move files from now have not given me permission to transfer ownership and they even locked me out for periods of time for transferring too many. Because I worked with other teachers and we had shared docs and folders, and if even one of those was in a folder I tried to share, it wouldn't let me so I had to share files one by one individually and then it started asking me "are you sure you want to share" which was an extra clicks each time and then it locked me out altogether! I was really hoping you knew another way! But thanks for all of your help with other tips I picked up like Nearpod etc.

I did this when I moved districts! I was able to put all of my files into a folder inside of another folder and was able to copy the entire thing at once. If that makes sense

I put in my 60 days at my old district and thought that meant I had 60 days to move my files. NOPE! Not the case, they locked me out the day of and I had 10 years worth of material under that account. One of my old coworkers who was on my Google Classroom was sweet enough to allow me access to her google account so I can get SOMETHING! Thinking about quitting teaching and moving everything because that is NOT happening again!

This is an excellent video. Thank you so much! One follow up question for once this process has been completed. If a file was shared via a link created on the OLD drive..what happens when end users click on that link? Will the system automatically know to redirect the end user to the version of the file that resides on the NEW drive? Or do I have to comb through all of the links that were shared on the OLD drive and update those links to be associated with the files on the NEW drive? Thanks for the video. I still wish there was a better way. When someone has a few TBs of data this is almost impossible to do.

My google DRIVE (NOT slides, doc etc) window does zoom in and out but never gets back to normal view. As a result, the tiles run beyond the page. Worse, when I click on "share" so I can change "owner" the dialogue box appears out of reach so that I can't interact with it - at best. Zooming more makes thing completely illegible -if and when it shows the dialogue box. In most cases, the page freezes and I can't scroll sideways to access or even find the dialogue box. I have limited time to transfer my files after which I will loose access and I'm wasting time trying to find an illusive workaround. Please help!

How do I transfer all of my pictures and videos from my Google and Onedrive account and move them over to my 6tb external harddrive and then delete those pictures from Google and Onedrive to free up space . I follow your channel and tune in to new videos. :) When you are transferring the current drive (Drive 1) to your personal drive (Drive 2), do you change the general access from "restricted to anyone with the link". I'm not sure and from your video, it looks like, no changes were made to general access. As as I'm stuck on the this step, please could you help and thanks in advance.

Can you just download the whole drive and then upload it to the new drive where those doc will automatically be the owner of the new account? Just a thought
