Note! This only works with PAINTED emblems, NOT Plastic emblems. Please check whether yours is plastic or paint. ALSO, Use Microfiber towels when applying acetone to ensure that there are no micro scratches on the chrome finish. Mine has barely noticeable scratches on it using paper towels. I don't mind, but if you are OCD then microfiber towels will be best for you.

Nate Rider is there a certain acetone you have to buy cuz it's not working that well lol edit: the red white and blue came off but the black is not coming off at all

It takes a while for it to come off. ABout 15 min for me. Keep on rubbing, if red white and blue came off then black will eventually come off too

Plastic is a more glossier finish and the paint is a flatter finish

Just a thought/note, make sure to roll down your windows or open your doors when working with chemicals, especially ones like acetone. They are pretty potent and you want to make sure you don't inhale too much of the fumes. Looks awesome though!

For anyone wanting to do this, I’ll explain my way of doing it. What I did was remove the emblem from the steering wheel using a flat head screw driver. I also disconnected the horn for this part because you will be pushing on the wheel a lot. There is just a connection right next to the horn that pulls out, it’s fairly easy. There are 6 tabs on the emblem that go into the steering wheel and they will take some patience to get out. It is important to take your time because you might end up bending your emblem since it is made of thin metal. After you get the emblem off, let it soak in a bowl of acetone for around 2-3 hours and the you should be able so wipe away all the paint and plastic. Then squirt some superglue on the back of the emblem, realign the tabs to their holes and place the emblem back in.

That sounds like a great method. I got the paint off mine, but I believe the paint chips themselves ended up scratching the metal surface as I was wiping the microfiber around so now I have a new problem.

Damn that took balls to shoot a vid on your first shot at using thinner on the steering wheel. It definitely paid off, I love the way it looks and how it ties in the rest of the metal finishes on the wheel and dash.

Thanks I just did this in my 09 Mustang and it literally took the Red, white, & blue off in 10 seconds the black section took about 8 minutes but worked perfectly.

Awesome Nate, thanks for the vid. My emblem is the same way, missing a lot of the red, white, and blue. Going to do this as Ford didn't put a lot of chrome in the Mustang interior. Have a 2005 ragtop and love my Mustang. Just want to know how you came up with the name Sally for your car. If I have a name for mine it is Patricia, my late wife who loved Mustang's and convertibles.

I like the chrome but I would remove the black and repaint the red white and blue just for a POP!.

Hey Nate I like the finish on the emblem. Mines perfect but I just might strip it down anyway because it actually does look much better! Nice job ! Go a little further with it and polish it to a mirror finish..?

Yeah man forsure! Let me know how it turns out. Its super clean when you finish it and super easy to do as well. Yes! Polish it, buff it, and you may receive little scratches, try applying with a microfiber towel if you can

Nah surprisingly not. I got some acetone on the plastic and nothing happened. I tried to avoid it as much as I could though

Is yours plastic ? Mine was plastic and only the red white and blue came off. You might have to rub it with air craft remover just wear gloves. 👍🏼

Hey Nate, thanx for the great tip, I may consider going with some red tape of some kind and doing my Canadian flag colors, of course meaning no disrespect to the mighty red, white & blue. Ya so adding to that sweet repair hack, now anyone could show their own patriotic Mustang flag with a little creativity cool! I know it's not related... but I don't see much interior mods videos here. I just bought the coverking suede dash mat to try out, got it for a good deal, in black. Will let you know how it turns out. I still like the plastic dash though so who knows I might try it and take it back off :P My entire interior is still brand new, car has about 30,000 miles on it.

I got my Coverking suede dash mat today, I haven't tried installing it yet but it looks quite small and doesn't look like real suede. I'm pretty tired right now though I'll let you know if it fits. It has 2 pieces and I'm unsure why and it looks different than the photos of it online.

Nate I just got my coverking suede dash mat. Not only is it faux suede but it also is 2' too short for the dash and it wouldn't have looked that great if it fit anyways. I got refunded by the seller.

I'd just get a rattle can if chrome paint and pop it off. Paint it. Let it dry and replace it
