This video surprised me, before I watched it I thought it was going to be like all the other videos that are made to help revision, although I know all the key points in this video already, it was so useful that you used examples in psychology to link it, I’ve never seen a video that has done this idea as great as you have! I struggled with knowing the categories last year (especially in social influence which you mentioned!) but this year (year 13) I’ve started to learn the categories. Also one thing not in your video, in research methods my teacher taught me that if it says ‘in the study’ in the question then you must put it in context and apply it to the example used. So yeah, as much as I know everything in the video already, I would highly recommend this video still because of how you link it to psychology, it’s good revision! Thank you for this video although I do think I prefer the videos where you go over a topic in psychology (still looking forward to watching your next video though!!)

currently revising for my a-levels however i’m stumped as most of the knowledge seems new to me so you suggest i write out and make notes first using websites and textbooks or directly reading then testing

Hi William. I hope the following is helpful with your revision: The first part of learning is always understanding the material and encoding it. There is little value in trying to active recall information you don't first understand. So if you do have material to study that is new to you then you want to prioritise understanding that material first so that it is encoded (stored) in your brain in a memorable way (try do something more than just passively read or watch - do something with the material if you can). One way of doing this might be through making Cornell notes (have a Google/KZfaq if not sure what this is). This will be helpful for you because it makes you engage in what you are reading/watching, summarising the key points BUT ALSO at the same time creating questions to test yourself on the material read/watched afterwards. So encode the information first, then actively recall that information after that. Hope that makes sense? Feel free to ask any further follow up questions 😀

The more active your learning the stronger it will be encoded - so if you just read your notes that's low level and whilst helps is limited. You want to transform that next - simplify, turn it into a diagram, then try explaining it to someone etc. You can help encoding with structure, diagrams, cues/colours, humour, stories, relating it to real life cases, fictional/movies etc. If you are in a race against time watch videos/read material at first to try to understand - then create a set of questions to check your understanding. Can you explain it in simple terms? Test yourself with questions/flashcards. Try to get to the point of testing yourself as soon as possible. If you find as you are testing yourself that you don't really understand the content at that point (i.e. you just feel like you are memorising facts but don't really understand what they are on about) then pause - watch some videos etc. to try to understand whats going on - then go back to testing yourself. Hope that helps.
