Hi guys,
In this video I show how to transform your wheel stand into a full sim racing cockpit. This is a relatively easy DIY seat add on that will make a big difference to your sim racing experience.
I would really appreciate if you could like, comment and subscribe if you enjoyed the video, thanks :)
The items used in this project were:
- 25mm x 25mm Box Iron
- 2x4 Timber
- A piece of stair thread (This could maybe be plywood or mdf for you)
- 6 x M8 Bolts
- A bucket seat
Directions:
- Cut two lengths of 25mm x 25mm box iron at 1100mm
- Cut another length of box iron at 440mm
- Weld the 3 pieces of box iron together in the fashion shown in the video
You now have the base for the whole project
- Cut 2 pieces of 2x4 timber at 320mm.
- Cut your mdf or plywood at 382mm.
- Put your mdf or plywood in between your 2 pieces of 2x4 and screw them together
You now have your seat base
- On both lengths of the box iron, measure and mark off 150mm, 300mm and 450mm in from the back and drill a hole through each of the 6 markings you should now have.
- Put your seat base on top of the box iron
- Screw from the bottom of the box iron up into your wooden seat base through the 6 holes you drilled to secure it.
Your seat base should now be mounted securely to the box iron.
- Place your seat on the seat base
- Mark where you are going to drill through to secure your seat to the base
- Secure your seat to the base
You should now have transformed your wheel stand into a full sim racing cockpit!
Disclaimer: This is the procedure I followed for this project on the X rocker xr wheel stand. These steps may differ for you depending on what wheel stand you have.

The rig certainly turned out as well as I'd hoped and it definitely offers a cheap alternative for people who may already have the parts laying around. Thanks for commenting once again!

Great idea for a similar stand that I have. Can I ask Where did you get your handbrake from, what price was it and what games does it work on please??? Cheers mark in Worcester England

Hi Mark, it was quite a while ago but I believe I bought it from Ebay for around €70, it's quite possible they have gotten cheaper now as more sellers come on the market. If you are on pc it pretty much works with most sim racing games as you can just map it to the handbrake input and the handbrake itself is plug and play (when you plug it in the PC recognises it instantly) however, I am unsure if the process is as straightforward on console. Hope this helps

Just a question, how tall is your desk? I want to do this but I need to know how high to make the wood box so I can sit high enough!

Thank you! I never did actually as I upgraded to an 80/20 rig, I did intend on doing so before the upgrade though!

I did the same thing a month ago...have you tried to stiffen the wheelbase yet? I'm gonna try this weekend, maybe bars straight down from the top of the large bar (the main bar) to the bottom bars? Don't know if that will help with the side swaying ...what do u think ?

I never actually did try strengthening the wheel stand as I got an 80/20 rig but from what I have seen some people have had some good success from cross bracing the two vertical bars that come up from the pedal base, maybe that could solve your problem? :)

@@mpowr2707 80/20? It doesnt flex at all really, So Not really a problem but I think I'm gonna reinforce it so it will add a spot to put some transducers:)

Create your own racing cockpit for only a fraction of the price! Step one: Mine raw iron, copper, nickel, and tin. Step two: Smelt your ores to reduce impurities and provide suitable metals for the next step.

I appreciate your video....but How many people have a welder? Are you trying to grow your channel or impress a small amount of people?
