Arbitrary code execution finally getting discovered in Terraria

What the fu-

I have an idea why this might be happening, though I have no familiarity with the inner workings of Terraria, so this is all speculation based on how games _typically_ work. I suspect that the active and inactive Bast statues are actually different item IDs, let's say 100 and 110. Every time the Bast statue is activated, instead of setting the ID to 110, it merely adds +10 to the item ID, and deactivating it subtracts -10. So you open the door, which is, let's say, item ID 200, and it overlaps one of the tiles of the Bast statue. Then you activate the Bast statue and it adds +10 to the item ID of that one tile, changing it from 200 to 210. Then you close the door, deactivate the Bast statue, open the door, activate the Bast statue and you now have ID 220. Every time you repeat the cycle, it adds +10 to the item ID of whatever is there. This also explains why you can go backwards by _de_ activating the statue while the door is open. Anyway, that's my best guess. Using a different door would give you a different starting point, but it is the Bast statue that's controlling how much the ID increments by. You said you couldn't get lower than 695, but couldn't you just run it backwards, i.e. deactivating the statue while the door is open, to reach lower ID values? You could probably also replace the Bast statue with something else that can be activated, or otherwise switched between two states with different item IDs, and it might change the increment value per cycle. You might also try using something other than doors, although I think the reason doors work is because it is able to exist in the same space as the Bast statue. Activating the statue changes the IDs of both items, since they're in the same space. I suspect most other items would overwrite the statue and thus wouldn't change IDs anymore. It seems to be specifically having statue and door occupy the same space that makes this work.

How to get full solar flare armor using this glitch: solar flare helmet: Either buy 6 dynasty wood from traveling merchant (rare) to make a dynasty door and then transmutate with the dynasty door 59 times to get solar flare helmet or get 6 smooth granite from a granite biome and then make a granite door with it. Transmutate with the granite door 44 times to get dynasty bed and then from it into shimmer to get lots of dynasty wood to make a dynasty door and then transmutate with the dynasty door 59 times to get the solar flare helmet. Solar flare breastplate: Get an ice machine by either buying it from the steampunker in the ice biome for 10 gold or find it in an underground ice chest. With the ice machine and 6 ice, make an ice door and transmutate with 59 times to get the solar flare breastplate. Solar flare leggings: find a green dungeon door in the dungeon and transmutate with it 36 times to get pine table. Throw the pine table into shimmer to get some pine wood and make a pine door with it. Transmutate with the pine door 59 times to get the solar flare leggings. And now, enjoy your solar flare armor pre-moon lord (:

Ok I got a theory on why it works: When the statue is activated it changes its tiles, and when it tries it on the door it moves the id without considering if it is a block or not, thus getting stuff like a Tera blade

Back in 1.2 there was a similar glitch that a friend and I used to duplicate items, but I had no idea how far desync glitches could go.

I have two questions. 1) Can this be done on platforms other than PC? Those would be less convenient, since you would need two copies of the game, and two matching devices, but it would still be good to know. 2) Can this be done in tmodloader? Would having certain mods on break it, since they would add new items?

I triggered a similar bug in 1.3 once, but idk how Basicallyx whenever another player in multiplayer opened a door, all blocks in a 6 block radius would be randomized And when is ay randomized i mean it, from candy cane blocks, to chlorophyte and even unobtainable blocks. Just by interacting with the door. Occassionally an item would generate too and just drop to the floor It also randomized air blocks

Hmmm, I wonder what happen if you place something else that can be activated on and off (like an inactive/active stone block, another bast statue, etc) Maybe it check if the block is activable, then execute the bast statue code, which changes the id from a bast statue to an inactive bast statue (explaining why it can go backwards) And since doors are activable (open/shut) the code succeed but the wrong action is done My theory, we need some research about that tho

How can i open terraria or tModLoader two times at both two sides on my screen?

This feels like its the exsact same kind of code manipulation and slight corruption that is used for the box corruption glitches in pokemon gold/sliver speedruns and the pomeg glitch in Emerald, like its almost the same. You somehow make a desynced corruption, like in the battle tower in emerald, somehow clone something (I think you can clone Bast statues with this, right?). Close and open the game, do some more wierd stuff and boom, you can somehow transmutate a door into many different items, just like you can manipulate Pokemon into literally transforming into other mons by changing the 4 bytes that are used to save the data on it Anyway, great glitch, might go back to my almost finished master world after 2 months and try it out for a bit

So uhh, quick question? Is it possible to achieve this black magic in T-Edit? Apparently my copy of terraria is unreasonablely unstable (best guess I have is that it relates to the steam cloud, somehow), and I don't think that I can run two separate copies of terraria at once. Idk why, but I really don't want to just do the easier thing and just edit a chest to have all the cool things, but I'd rather just do this overly complex glitch than be a fast cheater.

Can this be used to obtain unobtainable items? Unfortunately, the Carrot and the Lesser Restoration potions have item id’s too low. The Bone block would work (2 from Bamboo door), but I imagine it would probably break into bones just like a normal bone block would. As far as I can tell though, this would allow you to get the key molds, the lunar fragment hammers, axes, and chainsaws, the phasic warp ejector, the unused cultist banners, the cultist, ogre, and dark mage treasure bags, and more. Is that true or is there something I’m missing?
