My teacher asked me why did I do it. I pulled on the handle of a pot with water on a hot plate. I stepped onto something so I could reach it. I was curious. I was really little. Really stupid. I was screaming after that. Wow. That hurts.

Appreciate this video is 2 years old. However, a pretty superficial overview of a very important element of first aid. Serious thermal burns and complications arising from poorly managed burn injuries can result in costs of hundreds of thousands of $'s, some individual cases even exceeding a million $ and requiring years of multi-disciplinary treatment for the patient. Meanwhile little has been done to remove the host of preposterous KZfaq burn videos and other whacky approaches. Toothpaste, mustard, potato peels, even re-burning the burn - I kid you not - it has done the rounds with chefs and cooks for years. All these idiotic methods are still used by an ill-informed public all over the world driven by the internet and undesirable cultural and traditional practices most often coming via word of mouth but with no basis in science. And having a separate video just for "water" burns just adds to confusion by giving the impression there are different treatments for thermal burns. There are not. As for US EMS; it has a pretty poor track record for consistency in burn first aid. You can cross a county line in the US and be treated differently for thermal burn injuries. Some use water, some don't, some use hydrogel dressings, others nothing at all. Its not uncommon to see prominent EMS periodicals flogging hydrogels like Water-Jel and a dozen other brands simply because they were bought off by the hydrogel company for sponsorship. No science, just give us the money. You can't even get agreement between, the CDC, ABA (American burn association), state EMS bodies, local hospitals and others as to what is the best supported approach. Its a joke. And people suffer unnecessarily because of it. Effective first aid in burns is directly proportional to the outcome and this rises exponentially with the severity of the burns.
