Your baby is precious perfection from soft, downy head to improbably tiny toes, even more snuggly than you could have pictured in your expectant daydreams. Still, you may be wondering: is something wrong with this picture? What are those yucky scaly flakes doing on his soft, sweet scalp? Those whiteheads covering his button nose? Those red bumps dotting his kissable cheeks? Isn't baby skin supposed to be clear, smooth, flawless and flake-free?
Let's face facts: few babies escape their first few months without a bout of complexion bumps - none of them especially pretty, but all of them totally temporary.
Milia, those white heads you may have discovered on your newborn's nose, chin and cheeks, are caused by dead skin skin getting caught in pockets on the surface of your little one's skin. Milia often make their debut at birth. Resist the urge to scrub or squeeze those mini whiteheads. They'll clear up completely on their own, without any treatment at all.
Weren't prepared for pimples in your baby either, at least until she reached middle school? Just like the adolescent variety, infant acne, characterized by bumpy red pimples, is believed to be caused by hormones. Not hers, but yours, which are still floating around in baby's system. Unlike milia, pimples don't pop up until at least two to three weeks after delivery, sometimes later.
What's a parent to do? Really, nothing at all, no zit zappers necessary. Just rinse the pimples with water and pat them dry. Gently does it. The acne, like the milia, will clear on their own. And more good news: neither predicts a pimply future. Got breast milk? Dabbing drops of that liquid gold on baby breakouts may fast track the all-clear, helping heal complexion concerns of all kinds. Hey, maybe even yours!
Is cradle cap top of your mind, topping your little one's scalp and sometimes showing up behind his ears, on his eyelids or eyebrows, or on the side of his nose, with greasy scales that end up flaking or forming yellow or brownish crustiness? There are plenty of gentle baby shampoos designed to curb cradle cap. Ask your baby's doctor for a recommendation. Adding a gentle scalp massage with her shampoo or before it may help loosen up scales so they can be washed away.
That didn't do the trick? Ask about whether a pre-shampoo rubdown with a few drops of a recommended oil or ointment may get this baby-variety dandruff to flake off. A truly tough case may require a medicated shampoo or lotion, but don't use any unless it has been prescribed by the pediatrician. Once again, the best treatment may be the one you may have on tap: breastmilk. Rub it into baby's scalp often, or use some in baby's bath water.
Since sweating steps up those scales, skip the hat unless it's necessary to protect against cold or sun, and opt for one that's made of a soft, breathable material. Remove hats as soon as your baby is indoors or in the car. And of course, no hats during sleep.
Like most infant skin conditions, cradle cap rarely outstays baby's cradle days, though in a few little ones it may persist, or even clear up and then return, which should prompt a return to the doctor for advice. Here's to smooth sailing for your baby's skin, which is likely just around the bumpy bend!

The main cause of cradle cap are those so-called gentle baby shampoos and conditioners. All they do is stripped away a baby’s protective coating, disturbed the pH balance which causes dryness (cradle cap). Cradle cap can spread to the face and the rest of the body. Which sometimes can be mistaken for baby acne. Although I see the larger bumps on your babies face I also noticed those little tiny fine too. I am a 65 year old African-American mother of six children. I am also the family grandma and babysitter. So it took me a baby or two to learn these important truths. 1. For a baby’s first year there is no good reason a parent to put a commercial product on their babies head or body. Water will do just fine. If you really need to seal moisture into your baby skin just use some plain old olive oil. Think about your body and how dry your skin is after a shower or a bath. Now take a bath or shower and wash your hair with one of those so-called gentle baby soap or shampoos and see if you get the same result. 2. Another cause for baby acne is heating your babies milk in a microwave. I have seen this over and over again. 3. Get rid of those baby combs and brushes. A babies hair is not strong enough to be combed, brushed or manipulate on a daily. CHALLENGE: I challenge any new mom’s to only wash your baby’s hair and body with water only and do not to comb or brush your babies hair for one year. Watch how healthy thick and long it will be. Think about the singer Beyoncé, every time you saw her with her baby in the first year, her hair was never comb or pulled up or braided in any style now look at her daughters hair now. REMEMBER: You are your baby’s advocate so trust yourself, “you got it”. So don’t be so hard on yourself. God put IT in you.

Yep that breast milk is a miracle worker! Cleared up babies acne over night. Also helped when his skin was peeling on his forehead.

A lactation consultant told me human babies are like pets. They smell odors the same. I kid you not. & thats part of a reason why a baby actually Does already feel a bond more to a mom more than others. Kind of a little upset she can't see me clearly yet. But at least she prefers my voice over others. A part of me believed it. A part of me didn't. Since I found out breast milk has healing properties for even skin, I've really been trying to test this out. It's only been 1 day. But what I did discover is she really must smell me. Bc her impatient self wanted to lick my finger when I was trying to apply it to her little cheeks. To me, it obviously smells like nothing. & it really could've been anything on my finger. But she clearly knew. She wanted what was on it. It's like my doofus self, always gets most of my info online...& it sounds more silly saying it out loud. But well I'm just her mom. Plus 💡1+1. I'm prob over bearing & possessive. But it's just weird already how ppl act like they can already come in between that, are more important, or that idk. Not really acting like I'm not part of the equation ... but failing to see the bigger pic. We have this whole odd connection no1 could ever have... plz stop that whackness. didn't know anyone else carried her 4 9 mths too. I have a 15 yr old. She's just as crazy about me as I am her. Talk crap about the other, we're teaming up to talk crap back. Like DUH. Just obsessed w/ my youngens bc they're my only true permanents & fam in this world. They like sniff their ways through :/. All skin ailments are symptoms of an underlying condition, a sign of a challenge to the immune system.Regular schedule, good nutrition, plenty of rest, sleep, and a calm pleasant atmosphere strengthens the health of the immune system. Whitish glassy spots are nerves protruding, [termed ' white heads''] the most gentle massage with coconut oil or what you find works for you, will gradually smoothen, massage for scalp, face, and neck is healthful lifelong practice. Peace!
