Trimming your birds feathers is a great idea if your bird flys around like crazy.i know I might sound cruel but it doesn't hurt them them and their feathers grow back any way
@chasegrace58746 жыл бұрын

@clawinnz5 жыл бұрын
It hurts them both mentally and physically. And even if the flights do grow back in. The mental damage is not so easy to fix. Then the big one! What do you know or not know about muscle atrophy? Clipping is a form of handicapping, and that makes it animal cruelty.

Thank you for the video, I wish more videos were as clear and concise as this. I feel better about wanting to clip my budgie's wings now, and more confident in doing it correctly when I get around to it. For those concerned, ideally this would only be a one or two times thing, until I can tame and befriend him. He's very flighty and I have cats in my house, so I would really rather be able to keep an eye on him.

Good! It may put you off Animal Abuse. Start thinking about the birds welfare, and that if needs flight to stay healthy. Unlikely a clipped bird will live as long as a NORMAL bird.

@@clawinnz oh my god, shut up. clipping wings isnt abuse. its a general practise used by normal pet parrot owners and ISNT a danger to the birds mental health or actual health. blood feathers are extremely rare to come across, and are easy to identify because the stem of the feather is red instead of opaque. plenty of birds with clipped feathers have lived as long as other birds and have even LIVED LONGER. check ur facts next time. edit: forgot to mention if birds fly the first time around your house without its feathers clipped it WILL bash into walls. it WILL bang into windows. a wing thats clipped only allows the bird to glide, and by the time the bird regrows its flight feathers, it would have already gotten familiar with the houses layout and will know what windows are. this is why clipping wings is perfect for a bird and will probably make them happier in the long run.

I thought this was pretty good until I saw how drastic the cut was. Cutting below the coverts (layer of feathers above the primaries) can result in hard falls and injury. I strongly advice cutting below the coverts. Safe is better than making a cut "look pretty."

I’ve watched different approaches and different groups clipped from the float feathers in all or part to all of the inner lift feathers! I didn’t know what to think. I was skeptical until I saw your video. Nice to learn from an expert! Appreciate you would take time for those of us who aren’t near you!!

I like her approach, and technique. The trim looks quite natural. I hate that blunt cut most folk use. I must say though- this was funny toward the end. Vet- "Alright! Let's see if little Toby will perch here for us." Toby- (jumps down and tries to escape). "NO- I've had it with you humans, and I'll thank you not to touch me right now!"

Aarthi Srikanth Wow another idiot talking shit, If you let it out like that, it will DIE, it will not survive in the wild. Captive bred parrots should be kept with their owners only. If you think they belong to the wild, think about all pets, they all belong in the wild include dogs. I disagree with someone kidnapping a wild bird and keep that, but if it’s a captive bred bird for pet only, then it should be a pet

I have a pretty tame Spanish Timbrado Canary and while I know it is not advisable to totally trim a canary's feathers I am considering trimming on each wing either 2 - 4 feathers totally or "a little off the top" on a few of them. I'm thinking if done correctly it will help train him to fly more precisely and by the time they grow back he'll have really improved. Also for now I still want him to be able to fly a little bit like to his cage and around the house a bit but I definitely want to discourage him from being able to fly away say into a tall tree outside if the opportunity happened to present itself and would likely maintain this trim. Any suggestions?
@VinylToVideo7 жыл бұрын
I decided the only way to really figure this out is to experiment a bit. I left the outermost 2 feathers totally intact and trimmed the third feather in about an inch all the way to the 6th feather in to around 1/2 inch. Already his flying seems incredibly precise; I almost can't believe it! He still gets adequate lift for around the house and most importantly inside the cage and outside of it can go where he wants (which is usually back into the cage!) but I am less worried about him trying to fly away if the opportunity presented itself.
