Trimming a cat's claws is really mean. A cat who is well loved will just learn not to use them on the things you care about. I let my cat's claws get really long and sharp, and even when I play with her like with my foot and I play bop her paw, she actually knows to retract her claws when she smacks my foot back. She fully retracts them. If she ever scratches something I don't want her to, I just clap really loud while she tries and and she'll stop and not try again for a year. I'm sure there are some cats who are extremely unruly by nature, but people's first go to shouldn't be to declaw or even trim them. A cat's claws are super important to them. Especially an outdoor cat like mine.

So there are circumstances where cats claws do need trimmed. It's not declawing, it's just trimming them to grow back. Some cats, even with the proper materials, have been known to not upkeep their claws. And when there are kids around you would want them trimmed because while YOU have a healthy relationship with a cat, the kid doesn't. Also, clapping super loud startles the hell out of them. They're stopping because you frightened them. I can tell my cat in a simple tone, "No," and he'll never do it again. Without the loud noise or fear. He just looks at me and continues on. Trimming a cat's claws is hygienic. Don't try to act like a vet when you're not.

I think u should’ve gave it a treat first, or played music that calms cats down :) Or talked to it in a gentle voice. Although ur cat may attack u or be rude, deep down they may love you even in the tiniest bit (Only if you don’t hurt or abuse it ofc)

Correction - never DECLAW a cat! Trimming a cat's claws is important for them since they can scratch themselves, and their claws don't wear down on their own very easily! Just leave it to a vet, since their nails have all sorts of innards and have to be cut to a certain length!
